Fran McCaffery and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Transfer Portal

The guy died and you have yet another moron hawk fan worshipping the athletic department. This guy is a real POS!!

Step 1: Call for formal charges to be filed before allowing anyone to make a negative statement about something surrounding your favorite team.

Step 2: Argue the law was at fault here, not the driver of the vehicle who, allegedly, is linked to your favorite team.

Can't wait to see what step 3 is for ICWestfan. We're heading down a very slippery slope here.

Idk why he always goes after the best guys it seems. Guys like Nelson you maybe get a visit from but he's not coming here. Then it's like there's no plan B
Steve infamously whiffed on dozens if not hundreds of kids over his last couple of years. It seems like Iowa State was linked to every transfer out there good, bad, or anywhere in between. He still ended up with decent guys in his last season: Coleman-Lands, Tyler Harris, Javan Johnson, and though he never played for ISU Blake Hinson. They all are or were decent players at G5 or P6 levels. None of them are/were world beaters but still, like you mentioned, guys that never even seem to register on Fran's radar.

So ISU won’t be playing against Grant Nelson next year?

Anyone know what Fran's BA is for transfers (not including reluctant pickups after all the misses). It's got to be under 5% and that includes Uthoff who already had ties....

I broke this down by who I believe will be their starting 5 next year, who I think could be in the consistent rotation, and then who will not see very minutes.

* = walkon

Dix/ Bowen - So.
Perkins - Sr.
Payton Sandfort - Jr.
McCaffery - RS Sr.
Krikke - Sr.

All I see is derpth.

I know we love to hate Iowa - and nobody on Earth hates them as much as me - but their class isn't as terrible as people like to make it seem.

Roughly 40th nationally with a 4-star in the Top 100 and 2x 3-stars in the Top 200. A former 4-star and 3-star transfers. None are at the Murray level, but that's a pretty high bar for them.

That obviously doesn't compare to our 15th ranked class with a 5-star #12, 4-star #39, and 2x 3-stars, all in the Top 200. We also added a former 4-star and 2x 3-stars in the Portal.

Both Krikke and Brauns are seniors though so it really doesn't matter what they were projected out of high school. Neither were hot ticket items in the portal.

As for their HS products, I think Owen Freeman is going to be solid some day Sandfort is really propping up the class. It's different than Omaha too considering our next best recruit is still a top 50 kid.

Who knows what's going to happen but for next year, it seems like Iowa isn't going to have very good or experienced depth.

Absolutely agree with everything you posted.

My biggest issue for Iowa is that I think their versatility is so much lower than the past.

The defense will be bad, it always is. Iowa will score points, they always do. Is the offense going to be good enough to get them back to the tournament?

Perkins can create for himself. Can anyone else? Patrick and Sandfort can't. Can Krikke? I actually dont know and we dont know if he's even a P6 player yet either. Dix didn't last year from what I saw. Bowen wasnt even getting into all the games last year.

They'll score and not defend like always. If their offense isn't top 10 again though can they overcome that? Even if its like 24th due to being more limited, if their defense is in the 100s then oof.

Pretty sure the only reason why Brauns is on scholarship now is because of how much that staff has whiffed in the portal this offseason. He came in as a walk on just wanting to fulfill his lifelong dream of playing for iowa in his last year of eligibility.

Fran will have a competitive team that plays no defense. They'll beat up on teams that can't score and struggle when teams play actual defense or if the ball is too inflated or the wrong brand or if the refs are out to get them.

Caitlin and the women's team are going to further drain attendance for Fran's boys. No doubt about it. His program has already sewn apathy. Its a different version of the same thing every damn year which is just a shade above mediocre.

I don't know if it's apathy so much as they're performing at the level they historically have. The only thing that would make it really sting is that they've had an All American for what 3-4 years straight and haven't reached the Sweet 16. Otherwise it's par for Iowa basketball history.

I'd equate it to Prohm's early years. Had amazing talent at times and did **** with it in the postseason. But overall it was at or above average for recent history.
