Yeah, it comes down to how big of a sports fan they are. A lot of people don't understand the difference between the two schools, but they also don't have any clue who the Iowa Hawkeyes are either. Sports fans know the difference, but are more familiar with Iowa's brand. A lot of people can't spot Iowa on a map, and that's not an exaggeration
And Big 10 fans are clueless about any sports outside of their conference.
100% this. Idk what it is about that conference but fans of big 10 schools that I have met are very much in their own little sports bubble.
Kids are generally taught how I believe, around 6 or 7 years old, but as with most things, if they're not having to use that knowledge regularly, it doesn't stick. Most clocks are digital now. Hell, come to think of it, other than the analog face I chose on my smart watch, i'm not sure the last time I had to read an analog one.
Why should they? I learned cursive. I haven't had to read it more than a handful of times in the last 20 years. I remember having a whole bunch of time spent learning cursive, with all the other things we want kids to learn, i'd absolutely rather them be learning those things than spending time learning a form of writing that almost no one uses anymore outside signatures.
Id imagine a lot of adults of all ages can't do those things, even though those things were taught in school for them as well. This isn't a problem of teaching, its a problem of lack of need in daily life. Also, many times for relatively simple math, its easier to just have a calculator do it. I'm pretty good at doing that kind of math in my head, but if the tool is there to just figure it quickly, why wouldn't I use the tool?

Not surprising. The deal was made during a more financially stable time. Now, with all the uncertainty around the long term financial outlook of ESPN and sports in general, I doubt they'd want to expand that contract any further if they don't have to. Because, in the end, you're adding an additional game to Peacock or BTN. How much are those worth? The main slots are already planned for and you aren't looking at adding another primetime game. It's just another potential option in that same primetime slot.

Simple math is still taught obv however everyone has a calculator in their pocket so the need for mental math is essentially obsolete

Wrong. Calculators have been around since '75ish?? At least that is what my parents said. What does having calculator have to so with understanding and performing simple math?

People that can do mental math in their heads are usually a step ahead in situations when it is required. It is not obsolete to be the best that u can be.
To get a piece of paper that says you learned something. Math is different in that it is absolute with other information you need to study to see how things work together and interconnect.

Untrue. I use mental math a ton. If I am at the gas station or any store picking up a few things, I will often have an idea of the total price in my head and a few times have caught something that got scanned twice or got scanned at the wrong price. Not pulling out my calculator every time.
Also use it for tips. It's also good to check prices at the grocery store, such as determining if a 6 pack of 16.9 oz bottles is a better deal than a 12 pack of cans.
