Can anything be done about lack of TV Coverage?

I'm really wondering what can be done to get Cyclones games back on TV in NE Iowa? I know its on Mediacom Connections but that doesn't do a lot of us any good.

I applaud KFXA for running the Big 12 game of the week but why couldn't they run the game on Saturday night? I would think I-State - Missou could bring in the same ad revenues as a rerun of Cops.

I can kind of understand them passing on Wednesday Games because American Idol has to be their most popular show but I remember a couple of years ago ION was running games on weeknights and that has to be profitable for them really old reruns of Boston Legal.

I know Jamie and the staff have talked about trying to get more coverage throughout the state and their Mediacom deal is a step in the right direction but is there anything productive that can be done by the rest of us to get Cyclone games some significant TV Coverage?
 
If the broadcast quality is similar to that of WOI, you may not want the TV broadcast. Seriously (mostly.)

E-mail Cyclone Sports Properties. They're the ones that make all the TV (CTN) and radio (CRN) deals. Good luck getting a response, though.
 
If you're far enough in NE Iowa, even when the game is on Mediacom Connections, you get to watch the opening tip, then it cuts to Chatfield, Minnesota High School Girls Basketball. What a treat.
 
Or you could be in KC and find out that the local affiliates only broadcast when the game is not on pay per view. I thought that was what I was doing each month when I sent in my cable bill:jimlad::realmad:

Is that a WOI issue or a Big 12 Network/ESPN Regional issue? The game of the week broadcast Saturday on KFXA was so dark up here I was worried for a while my TV was broken.

I'm guessing winning, or lack there of would have something to do with it.
 
It depends on if it's a CTN game or a Big XII network game.

The affiliates are free to air the later (and they can choose which game to air). The former, they would have to be part of the CTN, I would assume.

I would also guess that if they thought the ratings would be higher for the basketball game, they would air it.

I pretty sure that games on CTN are pretty much Medicom's games, since they use Medicom's announcers (BJ and the other guy who I can't remember the name) and sell their services to ESPN360 and other stations (WOI). They are available if you want to pay a fee to subscribe to ESPN full court on satelite or Medicom Connections channel.

I may be wrong and correct me if I am.
 
8-3 (WQAD) carries almost all the games now, so I've seen more ISU games this year than I have in a long time. 4-2 ( WHBF) also sometimes has the games.

There you have it...Just produce a top 20 b-ball team every year and you will be on tv consistently!!

Other than being in the top 20 there just isnt a whole lot that Jamie Pollard can do about tv coverage for a team that is a bottom feeder yes I said bottom feeder in the big 12!!!

I miss Larry Eustacy and that 32 win season!!!! I miss Johnny Orr and hilton magic instead of hilton dead like it is now...

I dont miss: Glen Anderson-Ken Trickey-Lynn Nance...they B-Bad!!!:yes:
 
Start of Rant:

Growing up in Marshalltown I rarely, if ever saw a ISU football game on TV. But, I could always watch ISU basketball on channel 5. Now, all my friends were Squawk fans mostly because they were on Fox every single game of every sports season. (I can venture to guess that is why the a lot of people in this state like the squawks.) No allegiance to EIU what so ever, but was guarenteed that they would easily be able to find the sky carp on TV. That was how they built the fan base.

Now fast forward to a year or so ago. We had to switch logos so "people would easily recognize Iowa State University." As we were switching logos, EIU was having trouble getting games to the majority of Iowans. First the Sinclair / Mediamcom squabble and then the little 11 network / dish network / Mediacom negotiations. Four two seasons in a row Squawk fans got shafted in watching games. What were we doing in the mean time. Having games on FSN, ESPN, Mediacom Connections, ESPN 360, some obscure internet site, etc.. Just to watch a season worth of basketball and football games the average Joe needed to switch cable / dish providers, subscribe to such and such internet service (Clone Zone), update to a different tier TV package and travel to different locations. If we needed to get our logo out and have this big push we needed to have a location that everyone could go to and know they can get our games.

I know that the Big 12 controls a lot of this, but I'm talking more the non-conference season. I think I only watched 1 non conference game on my TV without having to switch something. It was/is starting to become a hassle. And I'm a diehard 'clones fan, not a casual one.

I just think that it would can continue to build on our fan base if we can figure away to get games on one location so people don't have to continuly search for our games. I know winning will help, but it may be quicker to do it before then.

I don't post on here a lot, but our fans griping about not being on TV enough is one of the issues that really burns me. The only reason that you "can't" watch the games is b/c you are to cheap to pay for them.

I live in Austin, TX and I sit in my home living room twice a week and watch the Clones play on my big screen. Between Clone Zone, ESPN Full Court, the Hawaii web cast, ESPNU, ESPN, and the Big Ten Network I have been able to watch every regular season game with the exception of 2 (Houston which wasn't televised and UNI which you got to watch for free if you live in Iowa).

Combine that with the fact that 11 of our 12 football games this fall were televised and I think everyone should be pretty damn thankful of how much television coverage we do get. How many other programs with 1 total conference win between there two primary sports do you think have had that much coverage. :no:
