Honda makes a good push mower or at least did a few yrs ago.
I've had mine for goign on 8 years now and it still runs like a top. I did spring for the fiberglass/composite deck. It's a little heavier, but shouldn't rust through.

What are the issues with the Toro? If they are about being under powered they made the engine larger after the first edition.
I can’t imagine trying to ride on a .28 acre lot. Even with zero turn, I think it might take longer.
I just replaced the transmission on mine (22" Personal Pace Super Recycler, 12 years old) and it took about two hours with no instructions. My impact driver was super helpful - would probably have been a bigger PITA with just wrenches and sockets. Replaced the belt at the same time. If I were JUST doing the belt, I could go through the top pretty easily by removing a couple covers. Might not even have to remove the blade. That's the only issue I've ever had with it. Just yearly maintenance besides that - oil change, spark plug, lube axles and sharpen the blade.Personal Pace Toro. Tires are bald on it. Probably about 10 years old. Just blow it off every once in awhile, change the oil every year, clean the air cleaner and the engine off, and sharpen the blade. Starts everytime.
FYI- The personal pace drive belt system is a biotch to put back on if it ever comes off. Dang engineers!! Going to have to replace it eventually. I'm sure I'll be F-bombing it while trying to install it.
Consumer ReportsWhat do you do to have a top five list of slightly different Honda push mower models lol?
That's interesting. Honda seems to produce an engine for just about everything.Honda notified its power equipment dealers in October 2022, informing them that it would stop manufacturing lawnmowers and other gas-powered equipment effective September 2023.5
I bought a Husqvarna and love the thing. Typically starts on the first pull. I only run 91 octane and it was two pulls for the first time mowing after winter hibernation.Since we have a thread on electric lawnmowers may as well have one on regular ones. I've been looking to upgrade my 21" push mower that I've had since 2004 when I bought my 1st house. It's a 4.5 HP Craftsman with a bagger and no self propel I think I paid $125 new at Sears so I've definitely got a lot of value out of it over the years. My issue now is I'm ready for an upgrade as I have a .28 acre lot that takes me around 90 minutes to mow with that mower and would like to save a little time and effort as when the grass is thick like it is right now that mower is a little underpowered.
Been looking at the Toro Timemaster which is a 30" push mower but between the price and some of the issues people have with it when I have researched it over the past 2 years or so I am hesitant to get serious about buying one. I don't want to go with a rider or zero turn mower as I think that is overkill for the size of my lawn and I'm still in my mid 40's and could use the extra physical rigor of mowing with a push mower. Any other affordable options out there for a larger walk behind mower that won't break the bank but still get the job done? Maybe I am overthinking the negatives with the Toro Timemaster as I hose down my mower after each mow and do regular maintenance on it so maybe some of the horror stories about the belts and pullies not being of good quality and it plugging up due to poor design are over exaggerated? Not coming up with good alternatives when I search either as most are commercial grade mowers out of my budget that I may as well buy a rider at those prices.
Probably decided that F1 with Red Bull was more profitable. That's interesting. Honda seems to produce an engine for just about everything.
I own this mower. Better get self propelled personal pace. It's a heavy beast. Twin blades. Had belt tightened after 1st season but besides that all good. Major bagging power.Since we have a thread on electric lawnmowers may as well have one on regular ones. Yeah I plan to get the personal pace for sure if I get one. I've gone away from bagging unless I need clippings to mulch my garden or have too much build up on the lawn. One thing I would get is I found there is a front thatcher attachment you can get to put on it too.I own this mower. Better get self propelled personal pace. It's a heavy beast. Twin blades. Report back when used for awhile. One of our neighbors several houses down has/had one but I noticed they normally used a regular mower. I do see used ones all the time on FB marketplace, so that also makes me pause.Going to pull the trigger on buying a Timemaster this spring. Hopefully can find a dealer that is running a sale when I do. I was ready to buy one late fall last year hoping someone was running an end of year sale but either the dealer was sold out or told me they had inventory but weren't discounting them as they had room to store over the winter. Anyone here that owns one is the electric start option really worth the extra $100?
I will buy new not used as I assume anything priced too good to be true used has issues. I have a neighbor down the street that bought one the other yesterday that loves it and a friend who is an engineer that owns one that has gave me his honest opinion and likes his too. I think like any machine you need to properly maintain it to get good life out of it.Report back when used for awhile. My opinion on the electric start unless you have an injury, save the money and the weight... I had it on a lawnboy and used it exactly one time; it was used and the battery was on its last leg. Never once contemplated replacing the battery.
