Official Thursday Night Whiskey Thread

Had a few drinks with some friends. Between us we drank some Caribou Crossing, Benchmark Full Proof and New Riff. Collecting has become a fun (but expensive) little hobby.

I've recently started collecting, too - agree completely very fun but gets pricey.

I saw that metro Kum & Go's were putting some allocated stuff on the shelves today so went hunting over lunch. Ended up with a Caribou ($53) and Buffalo Trace ($27). They also are having a bourbon drawing on 5/31 and had entry boxes in about half the stores.

My favorite lately has been the Four Roses Single Barrel, bonus is it's decently affordable. Tried a buddy's Adictivo (their whiskey, not their tequila) recently and it was amazing - it's a bit pricier around $100, IIRC (if you can even find it).

That's pretty far up on my wish list. I scored a bottle of Weller CYBP a few months ago but haven't opened it yet.
If you're willing to share a glass of CYPB, I'd be happy to share the full proof. I've never seen CYPB in Iowa...or ever actually.

We recently acquired this 40yo bottle from a relatives basement. Gramps used to collect and has a big collection, mostly empty but this was still full. Cracked it at Christmas and oh man it is smooth.

Who drank whiskey tonight and how awesome was it?

Me, I drank some Japanese Whiskey and it was pretty fn awesome.
Lordy, you have some off-the-wall posts late night posts lately. And then people actually respond, which just encourages you. Sigh. I did not have whiskey (or whisky) and now am jealous.

I have the rye, bourbon, American whiskey and sour mash and the sour mash is my favorite. I'd love to get my hand on a toasted barrel one sometime.
I would love find an affordable 10yr michter’s some day.

My current bar display is of these four bottles (picture file size is too large to upload) that I rotate every 4 months or so. I’ll soon update with the stave display of Blanton’s toppers.

I pick up some nicer bottles here and there, but my go to brands for regular sipping are always Old Forester 100 and Jim Beam Black. I know JB gets a bad rap and probably deserved for the white label, but the Black is great on the rocks, I’ve had Blanton’s and Pappy, they just aren’t worth the money I have to pay in my area. There are a lot of good bourbons out there under $30.

I actually am a big fan of Speyside Scotch, in particular Aberlour. That is a good sipper or on the rocks.

If you are ever in the Chicago area, i live in Schaumburg and can get it for a reasonable price in most of the big box liquor stores here. armanetis always has most of their offerings. And it’s not even on the top shelf.
