With all the attention garnered by Ryan Reynolds and Wrexham being promoted from non-League football to League Two, I wonder if anybody is paying attention to or interested in the Luton Town story.

Before the formation of the present Premier League, Luton Town FC was in the English First Division for a decade (1981-1992), then going into a free-fall which found them in the non-League Fifth Division from 2009-2014. They won the National League in 2014, then were promoted from League Two in 2018 and League One in 2019. The finished third in the English Championship (2nd Division) this year and are in a playoff with Coventry to see who will be promoted to the Premier League.

In short, Luton Town F.C. is on the verge of doing what Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are eventually hoping to do with Wrexham. I think it's a pretty cool story and wanted to know what other soccer fans think about it.

Love these stories. I love going back and looking at the first division from the early 90’s when I watched every Wednesday for a replayed PL game from the previous weekend on Fox Sports Net on the Primestar dish. Interesting to see who falls off and who makes their way all the way up from the bottom leagues.

Maybe get to catch a glimpse of Roy Wegerle or John harkes once in awhile. I remember Luton Town.

My favorite thing about the story is Luton's stadium! Worth a search, Kenilworth Road. Built literally into rows of homes. They supposedly will need to spend millions to get the stadium up to PL requirements if they get promoted.

Was just looking at the same thing. That stadium is as horrendous as it is interesting.

Still think it would be cool if the NFL did this with the XFL. So the worst NFL team get's demoted. It would be pretty epic if a guy could start a football team and work it's way up to the NFL level. Reynolds and Mcelhenney were the perfect owners at the perfect time in the perfect town to make a great great story.

I feel like even the worst nfl team would hang 300 points on an xfl team.

Watched Luton Town on the telly in then old Division 1. My Coventry City hopefully beat them to return to the EPL.

Please read about Coventry’s journey after being relegated. It is quite a harrowing story on how bad ownership ruined a lot of things.

First FA Cup I watched on TV was Coventry beating Bolton 3-0 and became a fan of Cyrille Regis (rest his soul in heaven). 1987 FA Cup final was the first final I watched on TV and guess who played: Coventry City. It was one of the most dramatic FA Cup finals I’ve ever watched.

I've been following English Football since 2005 and I love the drama of promotion and relegation, particularly at the Championship, League One, and League Two levels. I follow Plymouth Argyle who just won League One. The League One playoff game tonight between Sheffield Wednesday and Peterborough was incredible.

That’s what’s fascinating about English football and its long history - the rise and fall of powerhouse clubs. My youngest son follows Portsmouth. I have a soft spot for Blackpool. Oldham Athletic is presently in the middle of the National League (5th Division) table after being one of the initial Premier League clubs in 1991. I’ll be rooting for Lutron Town to complete their improbable recovery to the top league!

Yeah right now. However, if you got some owners who wanted to spend money and buy the right players. Just like soccer does

The key word is ‘right’, Chelsea is the best example of just buying players isn’t going to fix things, which I love seeing because they’re plastics. Man United is another example to a certain extent.

That’s really unique - I seldom encounter someone who is really familiar with non-premiership teams.

I went to Everton Meet and Greet at Mall of America last year when they visited Minnesota and Graeme Sharp was there. I had a nice chat about 20 mins with him because barely anyone knew who he was and we chatted about the old Division one.

We then had Ashley Cole who was one of the coaches for Everton and not many people even recognized him. He had 100 caps for England and won 5 FA Cups!!!

Great story! I’ve been a big Leyton Orient fan for a long time. Super excited we got promoted up to League 1 for next season. Hopefully they can make a run like Luton has recently!

Whichever club wins this match will be an amazing story, but Luton was one level lower (5th Division) before their ascent, so they get my nod. Go Hatters!

That’s because Ashley Cole is a traitorous fuckwad bag grabber.

Entertaining match - feel bad for Coventry’s sixth PK taker - his walk-up was like the condemned on his way to the scaffold!
