What music are you listening to right now?

Just checked out the first single from Foo Fighters' upcoming album. "Excited" isn't the word I would use to describe my feelings on the album (Taylor Hawkins is my favorite drummer of all time, and it's just really ****** that he'll never play again), but I'm definitely digging the first teaser.

Comet
[Intro: Udo Lindenberg]
Da-da-da
Da-dei, da-da

[1. Verse: Udo Lindenberg]
I hear the seagulls singing at the harbor
The last song to be thrown out
I have long since stopped counting the years
That I've been sittin' in the thick smoke
Here used to be another bar
But the schnapps still tastes the same
And if I was somewhere at home
Then always there, where the applause goes wild

[Pre-Chorus: Apache 207]
And when I go, I go the way I came
Like a comet that strikes twice
Maybe it will hurt, but I want to make sure
That I'll live forever, let's turn it up one more time

[Chorus: Apache 207 & Udo Lindenberg]
And when I go, I go the way I came
Like a comet that strikes twice
Maybe it will hurt, but I want to make sure
That I'll live forever, let's turn it up one more time
Let's turn it up one more time

[2. Verse: Apache 207, Udo Lindenberg & both]
I'm takin' that tumbler from the club
Confetti on the streets
I'm proudly carrying the flag
Chuggin' the very last sip
"Where are those last days?"
I'm asking the taxi driver
And he asks me what I want
I don't want to fall asleep
I want a footprint of me, stronger than time
And I tell you, no other foot will fit there
So please, don't drop me back at home alone
They should see

[Pre-Chorus: Udo Lindenberg]
Yeah, when I go, I go the way I came
Like a comet that strikes twice
Maybe it will hurt, but I want to make sure
That I'll live forever, let's turn it up one more time

[Chorus: Apache 207 & Udo Lindenberg]
And when I go, I go the way I came
Like a comet that strikes twice
Maybe it will hurt, but I want to make sure
That I'll live forever, let's turn it up one more time

[Outro: Udo Lindenberg & Apache 207]
Let's turn it up one more time
Let's turn it up one more time (Let's turn it up one more time)
Da-da, da-da
Let's turn it up one more time (Let's turn it up one more time, yeah)

Props for working in Jean-Luc Picard into a hook....

The singer, Roger Clyne was just in Des Moines last month. Maybe Wooly's?

Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers - Switchblade

The Refreshments had some fun songs on that first album. Mekong describing conversations in a dive bar a long way from home. Down Together is just nonsense about wasting a day. Girly about a so bad it's good relationship with phrasing that reminds me a bit of Georgia Satellites' Battleship Chains. Mexico is a silly ditty about... well you can guess.

The Bottle & Fresh Horses was probably better musically, but they lost the sense of humor that defined the previous album.

So I snapped up some tickets to Metallica's tour next year... followed up by sampling the whole 72 Seasons album. Not bad I thought. Not life-changing, but not bad.

While listening to other Metallica nonsense, I happened to run into their cover of "Am I Evil?", So I felt compelled to put on the Diamond Head original too. I know Metallica helped make that song more popular, but it does stand well on its own.
