Pull thru's will be a game changer, it's coming. They'll need them for EV semis anyway, if/when we get to that point.

I think a lot of couples/family downplay the ability to have one EV and one ICE car. The EV does your day to day and charges at home. The other car/truck/etc does the extra stuff. Simple, covers all scenarios. I do get the problem of having only 1 car and it being an EV, that applies to me personally (which is why hybrids appeal to me more at this stage).
But having an ICE vehicle that only gets driven twice a year presents other challenges too. Gas goes bad. Tires get flat spots.

To actually answer the question, we're already asking if our next vehicle - which will be mine - should be electric. Will probably be in the market in about 2 years. Right now I am working almost 100% remote so my car only gets driven every couple weeks on errands but at some point our office is supposed to expand so I will start going in again. EV probably makes the most sense for that.

I would think in a typical family, you'd need the second car more often than that. Probably a couple times a week. Kids need to be driven somewhere, sudden store run, etc. while the other is away. Strictly for just a couple, I could see it. I know being WFH these days I can go close to a week without getting in my car.

I've already bought the last vehicle I'll ever own. I bought a 2021 GMC Sierra at the end of 2020, so I've had it 2 1/2 years now and it still hasn't got 5,000 miles on it yet (just under that). I put 1,600 of those miles on it on one trip, so I rarely drive it, except to go to the grocery store and see my grandkids.

Nice story gramps

75% of the electricity in MidAm areas is renewable, so way less time than that. Plus it is just a better car all around.
All depends on the government grants for them. Wind is highly subsidized for the first 10-20 years. Usually have major TIF county taxes also.

I bought one in Feb ‘22, right before gas prices spiked. I have an Audi e tron. My daily commute is 35 miles one way. My electric bill went up about $80/month on REC. range for Audis isn’t great but is fine for my commute. Love the car. Longer trips we take my wife’s gasser.

I debated between 6-10 and 10+.

The cost will have to come down quite a bit before I do it, and if the cost of electric vehicles makes gas powered vehicles cheaper, I might keep sticking with it.

Essentially, I will always go for the cheapest mode of transportation. When electric gets to the point, I'll get to that point with electric.
This is basically where I’m at. My current vehicle is 11 years old (I’ve had it for nearly 10) and has 170k miles. I’m hoping to get another 2-3 years out of it. I doubt I’ll go electric with my next vehicle, but I hope prices and infrastructure will reach the point that I can make the switch when I’m ready to upgrade from whatever my next vehicle is.

Went and did a test drive on Saturday of a model Y. My wife wants a new small SUV so we thought we'd check it out. After 1/2 hour drive, we were sold. We just put an order in for one and it should be here in the next 60 days.

I've had sports cars my whole life including 500hp BB muscle cars and this is just completely different. For the last decade I've heard how fast the Teslas are but the torque is freaking mind blowing.

I'm not doing this for the environment. I'm doing this because I liked driving the car, I liked the simplicity of the interior, I like the technology, I loved the one pedal driving, etc.

That's usually all it takes - just drive one.

Did you splurge for the Performance level, or the premium wheels for the LR AWD model? The dark cherry color looks awesome but isn't available here in the States yet, hope I can hold my wife off on getting a Model Y until that color is available.

That is what sold it for me, the tech was amazing, the simplicity was excellent, and most of all, it's silent. The first time I ever floored it was getting on to the interstate when I picked it up. No regrets (well other than Elon).

I would say about 5 years. My neighbors just got their panels and told me about their tax credit with everything, plus all the long term aspects we all are aware of but if you go in depth with this if you plan accordingly I don’t see much negative

I keep telling people there are a lot of reasons beyond just environmental. If gas was 2.50 in CA instead of 5.00+ you wouldn’t see tons of EVs everywhere you go. It more than breaks even vs comparable model here.

Iowa may be the last place to see that with all the ethanol socialism but 1.30 electric fuel equivalent goes a long way before even getting into other issues.
