Alright people, time to chime in on an online debate.

So to summarize, forgettable MLB pitcher takes to Twitter to slam United for making his 5 month pregnant wife pick up some popcorn his kids spilled during the flight. Said pregnant wife's marginally famous sister-in-law also chimed in. It's led to a decent debate on social media about picking up after your kids.

I'm always mortified by the mess my kids leave when are in public. I make them pick it up to the extent we are able without a broom, vacuum, etc. and will always leave a bigger than usual tip if I know they have extra to clean up. But I've seen quite a bit on social media about United being paid to clean the plane. Where do you land?

People in general kind of suck, people that take to Twitter to whine and try to get people fired suck twice as hard, ergo I guarantee this dude's wife sucks and let her kids throw popcorn all over.

Pick up your **** if you make a mess, easy.

Parents should 100% pick up after your kids. Also if you’re a professional athlete maybe don’t have your pregnant wife fly coach? Flight attendants are far more accommodating in first/business as they have much more time since they are handling fewer passengers.

Without clicking on the cancerous article, the fact that the dude went to Twitter to complain just makes me think the flight attendant was probably being reasonable and that the kid of a professional baseball player was probably being an absolute twat (hard to believe, right? lol). Real grown-ups don't complain on social media about service workers.

This. I can't imagine making what a professional athlete does and NOT flying first class.

I need to know who took the picture? Instead of helping you wanted to document the horror of being asked to pick up a few dozen pieces of popcorn off the ground.

For years flew with young kids and if they spilled the kid or myself would try to clean it up.
And there were some very fun spills that occurred.

I have patience for kids on planes, crying etc does not bother me. But no patience for parents who let their kids kick seats etc. There are some things parents can control.

The picture looked like it was a smaller puddle jumper. Those seats look more like an Embraer or some such plane

Something is seriously odd about that story. No doubt the flight attendant likely asked them to pick up a mess (gotta turn around that plane). I'm confused why a pilot would be involved and I'm confused about why a 5-year-old can't help pick up some spilled popcorn. I'm also confused why someone would ask someone to clean up popcorn and pick up "every drop" of it. That's strange and I would expect some sort of confirmation from other passengers if it were really that bad.

Just a friendly reminder that flight attendants main purpose is safety in the event of an emergency more than anything.
Where does cleaning up after my heathen children land in the hierarchy of their job description? I assumed it was first.

I have a friend who says, "Never let the truth get in the way of a good story."

There is a lot of info missing here, but generally I would say pick up after your kids.
