Any thoughts on how we, as Cyclone Nation, could boost home wrestling attendance? We do have the best wrestling in the country in our backyard with plenty of knowledgable fans.

Next years meet will be epic there will be like 16 senior combined wrestling

ISU vs Iowa will be here for the quite awile

Beating Iowa and winning a National title would do wonders.

This is the obvious answer. Outside of that, I think more promotions and advertising would do wonders. The atmosphere at these meets is amazing, and we just need to get more first-time fans and fans that have strayed back into Hilton.

I'm a firm believer that if you give more people a taste of the action, you'll get more people hooked. A few years ago I went to my first meet since I was a student. Now I go to at least 2 or 3 meets every season, and I'm considering season tickets next year.

Problem is, I'm not sure the budget will allow for more promotions and advertising.

I agree. I think promotions with a price break on kids would encourage more attendance.

Plan on being there with my two kids. It is a little inconvenient driving from omaha, but the way the team has been coming along the past few years and the atmosphere at Hilton, it is well worth it.

its only $10 for a CyPass.... and that includes being able to watch a top 25 women's bball team

shawn johnson is coming to beauty and the beast... that should get kids to come :)

It's actually $30, but if u get the all sports pass, they give u the CyPass for free, and then its the same price as buying just fball and mens bball.

What is Student attendance like at the meets?

Maybe Cyclone Alley could do some promotions that would allow members that attend Olympic Sports events extra perks.

Possibly set-up a point system that spans the Cyclone Alley Career (only 4 years allowed). Get some sponsors to fork over a nice prize package.

Top prize could be season tickets after graduation for a year.

Or could just go with some yearly prizes.

Maybe they already do this though.

They need to do more to educate the non wrestling fans that DO go to a meet and make it more fun so they come back... Wrestling already has a pretty limited audience, even in Iowa. I am guessing many of the non die hards that go don't return all that often. I know I went to a few when I was in school, mainly to support friends and because it was free and I had nothing better to do, but I have no desire whatsoever to drive up to Ames for a meet anymore...

What is Student attendance like at the meets?

I think the student section is on the west side behind the row of seats and tables they have for some of the big shots. There are always some former wrestlers sitting there. I've seen Frank Santana a couple times and Al Nacin is there almost every time. I'll try to remember to see how good the student attendance is tonight.

The last home meet with Oklahoma State had tons of action in critical times and was the most exciting I can remember in a long time. Big Z beating Rosholt was huge and also Jerome Ward being put on his back right away and then coming back to win. I bet that comeback does a lot for his confidence. Plus Jon Reader had a pin to start it all off.

Has anyone heard how Nick Fanthorpe is doing?? I ran into one of the wrestling trainers the other day and asked him and he said Nick was doing good but I'm sure he's not going to give me any inside details.

How many people on avg. come to the meets this year?

I don't know the number but I think the parquet is usually full and there are a small number of people in the balcony. I don't know what percentage of the arena is curtained off, If I had to guess I would say 35% or so?? So 65% of the parquet capacity would be a good guess on attendance??
