What matters is getting to the final four and winning the whole thing. Big ten has been crap at winning championships but hasn’t been bad sending teams to the final four. Big12 is still the better conference especially the last couple years where the big ten has been absolute trash. But just like gonzo was mistaken saying TCU getting smashed after beating Michigan was in some way bad for the big 12, saying the big10 shouldn’t put teams into March madness is also a bad take.
Why? I see the argument for winning titles of course, but why is the final four so different than advancing in any other round? Yes, it's better to get to the final four than the elite eight, but not so much that it's something to promote and disregard the other rounds. Unless you're cherry picking the criteria to make the data fit your narrative.
Because the final four means you won your region and it’s kind of like winning a mini tournament and then the winner from each region plays. I think it also helps that it’s on the final weekend so it gets more prestige then the elite 8.

It just can't be good when ESPN writers keep putting out articles saying the PAC doesn't have the value of the Big 12.

That’s actually basically a tie tie if you can perform fractions at grade 3 level.
How about championships per team? How about championship games per team. Overall win %?
I don’t think B10 should ban their teams to avoid the common embarrassment, only if TCU fb in playoff did more harm than good which was the premise. It’s not like Purdue getting punked was some fluke. Total embarrassment is the norm for Big Ten basketball at least if you want to compare to an elite conference.
I said some time ago he might be planning a mega basketball only "league"; it was the only way Gonzaga made sense. By themselves, why bother? But if the BigEast was also in it, now you have something substantial.
BY has said that getting more money out of bball is key.
Big East adds significant east coast media and time zone exposure; but 5 of their teams are in the midwest so it's a little easier to manage logistics.

All this may be moving pieces of this basketball growth strategy.
Well the second one is 100% a felony, the first isn’t a problem in my mind if they are betting on games they aren’t playing in or if they are betting on their team to win.
Ah…that’s why I pointed it out. The only difference is the media has a reason to ignore how the big ten typically sucks in the basketball tournament and Purdue getting punked wasn’t even surprising, even big ten fans knew Purdue was a toothless 1 seed. Everybody knew they’d get beat just like most high seed B10 teams, just everyone figured vs FAU or Memphis.
Big Ten isn’t horrible at basketball, just insanely overrated most years for obvious media reasons. Hopefully UCLA actually is awesome so at least some hype can make sense.
At some point with cord cutters this reality was going to catch up. Unfortunately for Pac it caught up while they were negotiating.
Out here in SoCal I had to tell my SDSU alum friends they made the final four.
100% overrated the past few years but maybe I just listen to different sources but I hadn’t heard anyone (not paid by the network) hyping up big ten basketball. Agree everyone with a brain had Purdue losing because that’s what Painter does in the tournament but they ended up a one seed with a Kaiju playing center so they get the media love from those that don’t follow.
Next year sparty could be excellent and OSU could be sneaky good but the rest of the big ten is going to have another down year.
The PAC 12 slappys saying how this proves that SDSU is a huge add and needs to be swept up before the Big12 comes calling just shows how out of touch the PAC media/fans are.
The way Wilner/Canzano talked in their latest podcast SDSU making the final was a huge win for the PAC lol.
It sounds like we’re in violent agreement. TCU and Oklahoma haven’t “done damage” to the big 12 in the cfp any more than the last decade of basketball has damaged the big ten.
Since Nebraska/CU deadweight left nobody is on B12’s level per team much like SEC football. Big East had outstanding tournament which was first time in over four years any league bested big 12.
Doesn’t mean it can’t change or other conferences shouldn’t get a shot in cfp and ncaa.
