Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

One could argue that ESPN knew that TX and OU were already on the way out. They probably thought the other teams would be headed to the AAC.
ESPN knew all about it, because they helped broker the deal between the SEC and the TX and OU. That is what Bowlsby was referring to when he threated to sue ESPN if they did not back off.

What ESPN wanted was for their new TV contract announced with the SEC, then a year later, TX and OU announce they are leaving to join the SEC. The conference would quickly be offered bids in the AAC or the P12. aTm went public with the news, hoping to stop it from happening, instead it just slowed it down.

I work with big media companies and the layoff/hiring cycles in all economies most years are nuts. It seems entirely random who stays and goes. I’ll work with somebody amazing and think how crazy it is Disney or Sony let them go. Almost all my contacts now I know from multiple places they’ve been.

It’s all about the burn.

The PAC 12 will not get a deal that is apples to apples to the Big 12. The economic environment has changed since the Big 12 moved ahead of them in line. They don’t have an elite product to sell in any major revenue generating sports and their biggest brand names want out. They’ll end up with either mostly streaming and similar ish money or less streaming with way less money. It’s a terrible position to be in and it seems to get worse by the day. If I’m any team in that conference that has a legitimate chance to get out of there, I’m on the first train out of town.

It's multiple things.

It's what you have mentioned as well as the prospects of ****** time slots and lacking the passionate fan bases that will watch/make numbers work. Probably of all the P5 conferences the Pac 12 lacks the passionate fan bases that other conferences do. Many people in the west are transplants and many move there because of activities, you know, the stuff that takes people off of their couches. From brands, to product, to time zone, to fan bases they just don't do enough to bring a big deal. That's only hurt by USC leaving the conference.

I understand why the PAC 10 schools don't want to leave and if I were them I wouldn't either. But if you can't get into the Big 10 or the SEC what are you going to do? Your remaining members aren't a strong enough brand and the Big 12 is the only viable conference with a deal. The only remaining option would be to try to work with the ACC on some cross continent deal but that also poses major issues.

The economics are ******** and it's made worse by the fact football gets a premium as it essentially operates outside of the NCAA framework. It's allowing the SEC to close the gap in basketball to where if it doesn't happen they won't be at the bottom of the food chain. Especially with their lack of ethics.

Here at KnappShack Runs the Table we'll talk about fine brewed baby formula and PAC 12 media rights. All here at KnappShack Runs the Table and we aren't afraid to make mistakes at KnappShack Runs the Table either!

Now let me quote some other dude's info to get us started at KnappShack Runs the Table

When can I become a member of the KnappShack empire? I can't wait to try some of that KnappShack Coffee either! :)

It sounded like he side stepped the question about 4 corners schools contact with B12, if I heard that correctly.

It would make sense that BY has given 4 corners his proposal and now they are just waiting to compare that to Kliavkoff’s deal and then make a decision.
He definitely sidestepped the question. Interesting he did that after his AD tweeted this a couple weeks ago:

Still think the Pac signs a deal. But what if Yormark spins it like we are having to join the Pac (some of them) and adopt their name (sort of) to entice the 4 corners, Washington, and Oregon.

Yormark: "How about a merger between the conferences where the Big 12 schools will join you 6? The Pacific American Conference (PAC) will be the result."

Does that sound like Wilner setting up to blame George if it all goes down the drain? Like "ive been right all along about how awesome the P12 is, but GK **** the bed"?

Sure does.

“We weren’t wrong about PAC being stronger/better/etc, George just was incompetent”

They’ve already been trending that way when thinking a possible path is to just sign a bad deal to stick together for 3-5 years until they can get back in front of the Big 12 when negotiating with ESPN

It’s not the fact no one wants an apathetic and pathetic west coast based conference that doesn’t even have LA, that only has value as late night smut football, it’s just bad commissioners
