i dont think i have ever seen bill get that emotional on the court. i love that ! he truely loves this team. he has said it so many times how this team has been his favorite team to coach over the last two years becasuse of there heart. to have them finally get one has to make him relieved.

I think this being his first championship since his dad died and his mom dying this year made it hard for him. I'm sure part of the emotion was neither of his folks being there to share the moment. Bill is all about family.

I was going to say this very thing and also add that I think this group of players means alot to him and everything they had to go through losing Stephanie to injury. He was probably thinking about that family that lost their 13 year old daughter/sister.

The fact that he's had so many teams come so close to winning this thing and him finally doing it, really means a lot. These ladies were dealt a bad hand when Steph went down. Our goal was to win the conference regular season, and we came up short, but this still is a huge deal to win a conference tournament championship.

We're playing very good basketball right now. I'm hoping we can get a decent contingent of Cyclone faithful down to Knoxville.

Frankly, I think that preseason this team set goals of winning the regular season, Big 12 tournament and a final four.

I think the biggest thing is that by the end of this year, this team was dishing it out as almost as much as they were taking it. To go toe-to-toe in the trenches with the thugs Baylor and Bevo us in the trenches was very noticeable. Izzy coming along has helped more than I thought she would.

Rest up while the coaches prepare for BFs old team. Then hopefully, for Kelly Harpers team. It was her Missouri State team that kept ended Bridget Carlton’s ISU career at home before the Sweet 16. Harper parlayed it into the Tennessee job. Ashley was a freshman. Hopefully she can keep Kelly and her current team home in Knoxville.

I have been impressed with the play of Izzi the last couple of weeks. Hopefully, we get Steph back for a bonus season, Izzi continues to give great backup minutes and we can ease Audi into the college game.

Even if Steph isn't back, I feel much better with what I have seen from Izzi recently about inside next year. Izzi, Ny and Audi (albeit rookie) should not be much drop from end of this year.

That would be some sweet justice.

Has he said how many more years he's coaching? I wondered if he knew this was one of his last dances.

Ashley is so skilled and smart on the court. And tough. We were sitting a few rows up just across the court from our bench. She was taking a beating on both ends. Then, she just pivots or scoops and makes a shot. Or steps back on throws in a sweet 3.

We could tell that we was willing us forward in the 4th quarter. She never let Texas swing the momentum with their physicality.

P.S. #44 on Texas may be the only player who spends more time on the floor than Ashley, but #44 falls because she is a bit clumsy and always pounding so hard and tying up arms with everyone near her.

Did anyone else observe that there was an inordinate amount of short, bank shots that went completely over the rim? We had at least 4.

In this case I would say that every shot inside was shot by a player with a texas hand or arm over one or both arms so they were trying to muscle the shot up. That often results in the shot being too hard when the disruption isn't as strong as it is other times. You probably noticed quite a few shots that were short from inside as well. That was what they were trying to avoid - just get it on the rim...

Joens has meant a lot to the program, and she really has won nothing since she has been at ISU team wise. Plus, Bill is getting older and has never struck me as the type of guy that will be coaching into his 70's. He has been making very good money for many years now, and I am sure can see the end coming, and seeing Joens win a championship had too be very satisfying for him.

Or in at least one instance because Kane spun around and struck fear into her heart, causing her to fall down like a fainting goat. Somewhere around two minutes into the 2nd quarter.

CBF sure wiped some "sweat" from his eyes after that big hug from ISU President Wendy Wintersteen after the game ended. He also stood facing the crowd with his hands on his head in a kind of "I can't believe this - finally!" type of moment.

And Ashley shooting those last free throws with tears in her eyes. Man, that got me.
I had to check myself a couple times. The rest of the team ran into the tunnel to put the sticker on the bracket while Ashley did interviews. As soon as she was done, she ran to join and Ryan met her in the tunnel for a huge hug. You don't see Ashley's emotions often. It was cool to see her having so much fun.
