Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Love it, maybe the four schools the Pac wants to add are Vandy, Duke, Northwestern, and Rice, they'd be set.

Just as a side note, Rice wouldn't be a terrible add for PAC. Academics are top notch, big endowment. Used to be average in athletics once upon a time. Basically another Cal.

Rice would be a better add than SMU; difference is SMU has spent the last 10 years trying to be good at sports, and Rice has politely abstained.

Neither is going to move the TV money needle. At least not positively.

Interesting stuff from Thamel

A source told ESPN on Sunday that a streaming-only media deal with no presence on traditional television is not an option for the league. (A streaming platform sublicensing to traditional television is a potential path, as Apple and Amazon have been linked to the league as streaming suitors.)

Like a sublicense to ION? :p

I have no inside information on this, but I have heard that a new streaming partner has signed on to sponsor Pac-12 After Hours. The bad news is halftime entertainment on the platform is gonna look a little different.

If my wife wasn't looking over my shoulder right now, I'd 'like' this post.

Wonder what Bill Walton will be doing

It's gotta be good for us that ESPN is writing another hit piece on the PAC while talking up the Big 12.

My favorite line was in regards to Colorado and Arizona potentially signing a short term GOR to remain in the PAC:

"There's only so much nobility sticking on a ship that nearly everyone thinks will sink in 60 months."

I look at him as a rumor aggregator. He may have a source, but maybe not. I think he looks at a lot of different message boards etc., aggregates the rumors, and then spins them off as his own sources. Some are maybe true, others not. I follow him for entertainment purposes because some of the theories are pretty damn interesting. That doesn't mean they should be believed.
This appears to be exactly what he is doing... digging deep into various message boards where he gets the feel for what fans are saying and then passing it on as a source. Flugaur pointed out that he had posted MHver's pinned tweet about USC/UCLA days before MHver and his tweet may be where MHver got it. I still love to read it. He's like reading The Onion, but pro Big 12. He gives me a feel for what the Pro Big 12 side is saying. I then read Clownzano for the Pro Pac 12 side of the BS.

I follow these people for realignment: 365 Sports, Bob Thompson, Brett McMurphy, Pete Thamel, Dennis Dodd, Jon Wilner, John Canzano, Jason Scheer, Greg Flugaur, MHver3. It has been a great soap opera and I cannot get enough!

Rate the likelihood of different PAC fallout options out of 100:

I'm at 50% League stays together as is for now, until WAOR bail at the end of a short term streaming deal, 30% WAOR leave now for B1G as junior members and 4 teams come to Big 12, 10% only the 4 corners take the life boat and leave the others for Big 12 now, 6% league stays together forever as is and this was all much ado about nothing, 3% PAC tries a media sharing agreement with access to the ACC network that benefits both conferences and ACC, and 1% Stew Mandel funds the conference through his newspaper route and tips he earns as an exotic dancer on weekends.

Yawn. I swear I have seen at least a dozen of these special regents meetings come and go in this thread with nothing coming of it. I would guess this has nothing to do with realignment.

It very well could include it as an item of discussion, but i'd agree it probably doesnt mean there's movement. Probably just a status update for all involved on all fronts of where things are at the moment

This might raise some eyebrows.

This certainly raises my eyebrows because it doesn't make any sense. Assuming that we get CU, UA, and ASU that means the Pac is done. So that to me means everyone in the league is scrambling for a spot.

Telling me SDSU is more attractive than Utah seems like a stretch. Telling me they are more attractive than any other P12 team seems totally insane. Hell, it seems like in a scenario like this Oregon or UW could even be available. If we get multiple corner schools the PNW schools may prefer to bide their time waiting for the B1G with us versus the smoking crater left on the west coast.

I just can't imagine a single scenario where it makes any sense for us to take SDSU. I think this is misinformation being fed to the media for some reason.
