Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

It was settled. The ACC will also settle at some point. The only question is how early.

Think of it this way- settling over just a year worth of gain is far less likely than 13. There’s so much more benefits to exchange with 13 years of lost revenue. Plus ACC only has one buy side network and it’s the same network that owns a P2.

Deadlines make deals, but if Yormark was here since 2011, we would have settled far earlier if it was known OUT was out come end of GOR , like it seems FSU:Clemson sre
A key difference between the B12 and ACC is the B12 had their future assured when they negotiated with OUT. The ACC will be in essentially the PAC's spot without their GOR.

**Edit** Also wanted to add, what do you think ESPN's stance on paying $51m/year for something they're currently getting for $17m/year would be? Or having to find content to fill a hole? The ACC schools left out of the P2 or P3 aren't the only parties with a vested interest in keeping the conference together?

There's a future where the ACC desperately would like to fill losses with WVU, Cincy, UCF and Houston had the Big 12 not already added them.

Like the Pac right now, they won't be in any position to poach Big 12 teams after they lose Clemson/FSU and more.

Like the Pac right now, their leftovers will have an eye looking toward the Big 12 regardless of if we add any of these Pac teams now.

I'll be surprised if the ACC doesn't include UConn and USF some day because those seem like the obvious best fill in teams for them that aren't already in the Big 12/SEC/BIg Ten. The ACC will also almost surely try to lure some Big East schools as basketball only, depends on what basketball brands they are left with after Big Ten and SEC get done shopping.

Espn wants consolidation for a reason. It does add to valuations. More efficient cost structure.

But espn solving the ACC issue only gets more difficult as GOR expiration approaches. They risk losing substantial market share to Fox and Co if ACC schools are free agents.

And with only being on hook for $20 million of P5 additions to B12, if they were to move 8 ACC schools to Big 12, they shed costs in the long run. Getting Fox or another network to help make ACzc whole

Add in repurposing ACC Network into Big 24, expanding the footprint drastically

no ACC for base CFP pay (very good for both P2)

Frees up space for the more premium SEC games on linear, while adding a little more room to Big 12

They lock in ACC premium brands into their premium conference (SEC) well before free agency, and likely slightly at a profit.

I’m pretty sure Bowlsby wanted to try the breech of contract angle against OuT and ESPN for working the back channels and thought better of it.

I'd call this Big 24 the AFC

Also my new phone corrected Big 12 to Pig 12. Another marketing opportunity if you ask me

The breaking of any GOR is not even just a "can it be done?" question. It's weighing how much it's going to cost you in legal fees and the like to do it. You better be damn sure you are going to win the case and be able to break it, as well as be able to figure out total cost compared to what windfall you will be getting from getting out of the GOR without any penalty.

Anyway though, back to the smoke to on these four corner schools. Weird being on the other side of this for once.

My new favorite future for the B12 is one I saw on Reddit, where the B12 becomes a 24 team league with 3 divisions:

West: AU, ASU, CU, BYU, UU, SDSU, then 2 of Oregon/Washington or Oregon State/Washington State or Cal/Stanford

Central: ISU, KU, KSU, OSU, TTU, BU, TCU, Houston

East: WVU, Cincy, Louisville, UCF, Pitt, Virginia Tech, Miami, NC State

In football play the other 7 in division, then 1 crossover with each other division. Not sure how that would break down for basketball. Essentially 3 regional sister leagues.

I don't think divisions are happening for most conferences as we go forward. It'll be about having a few protected games and then somewhat random from there. I'd hope to keep KU\KSU\OSU as our protected games.

This is just a massive shell game.
