As a lifelong St. Louis/AZ Cardinal fan, I was thrilled to have them finally get to the Super Bowl. As I saw the game, the Cards were very competitive and played well. I thought this performance would garner them a little respect.
I was shocked to hear Colin Cowherd drone on and on about how the Steelers dominated the game and were by far the better team. Really? They had to score a TD with :35 left to win the game. The Cards put up more yards on the Steelers defense than any team they played. The Steelers defense gave up 21 points, the Cards defense gave up 20.
I know I'm a homer, so I would like some unbiased opinions. I think the better team won the game, but do you really think the Steelers were "by far" better team?

GO CYCLONES!!!

Collin Cohwerd has said a number of stupid things.

Nope, evenly matched. Id say its one of the better super bowls because of it. If the Steelers were by far the better team, this would have been a blowout like some of the boredom of sb past.

I thought Arizona was the better team and would win 3 out of 5 times in a matchup with the Steelers.

Neither team could run the ball, and Arizona clearly had an advantage passing the ball.

Officiating made up the difference.

It was a good game of back and forth. I know many people felt the Steelers should have put them away in the 3rd with a few drives and instead took their foot off the gas. Honestly, I believe Arizona's D stepped up and did what they should have done late. Keep Roethislberger in the pocket. He is not that accurate and once the run was shut down it showed.

They didn't dominate the game, they were just more clutch in the big situations.

The Steelers were definitely not "by far" the better team. I agree that the best team won the game, but the Cardinals really impressed me last night. Unfortunately for my pocketbook, the best team couldn't win the game by more than 6.5 points.

The difference was Harrison making an unbelievable interception return. If anybody thinks that one team "dominated" the other I am convinced they didn't watch the game.

You have to remember that more than one expert claimed the Cardinals were "the worst playoff team ever." Most of the experts that didn't give the Cards a chance aren't going to admit they were wrong about the team. It's a lot easier for them to say, "See I told you so." even though they lost on a last minute score.

Cowherd is a closet Steelers fan. I've been hearing all day how this is one of the best SB teams ever, from Steeler fans of course. The colors must rot away any and all reality.

I think they were pretty even throughout the game, but AZ could not catch any breaks what-so-ever. When they finally caught a few breaks, they scored very quickly, and should have had at least one more chance to win the game (I was hoping for a review on the play).

Colin just chizzed you.

Equal teams, and it showed... definitely took 30 mins of football for the Cards to make adjustments to the Steeler D; the better team didn't win or lose though. The Cards were way better than their 9-7 season, obviously, and most teams in the NFL should play pretty equally when having two weeks to prepare for each other and nothing else.
I think most would've liked to see the Cards from the past 4 weeks and the first 5 weeks of the season appear more frequently through Nov and Dec, but oh well, they'll have to deal. Both teams offenses and defenses made big plays, and one team won.
I am getting pretty f'n tired of the ref talk. Calls went both ways, but in NO WAY did the cards lose because of officiating. It's amazing on this board (and maybe other boards/schools are right) how much we complain about refs and how everyone is out to get "us"... we're even booing the refs of a Super Bowl game where i bet 95% of us don't even have allegiances to. Can't we just enjoy the great game last night, both teams going all out and making plays, awesome football, etc? Oh well... I'm probably a Cyclone hater for this comment in some way :jimlad:

Many people watching had no real interest in the outcome. It became apparent that the refs were clearly favoring the Steelers, same as it was 3 years ago. Hard to ignore the 800 lb. gorilla.

The 55k Steeler fans swayed the refs after the mandatory free golf memberships were handed out to the hard working lawyer salesmen refs. The refs are all going free to Disney World in payment.

The main problem is that you were listening to Colin Cowherd. That guy is a complete blowhard. He makes swiss cheese arguments and claims that they are bulletproof. Any time you listen to him, remember that he is just trying to create drama by arguing from an extreme perspective.

They didn't "favor" anything... yeah the penalties went against the Cardinals more than the Steelers (10-5 or something like that not counting a couple def holding/PI calls that were declined by the Cards), but I never saw an "obvious" penalty against the Steelers that was dismissed so they weren't calling penalties one way and not equal the other way. Also, all of us couch referees have the benefit of instant replay, slow motion, and not 20 other distractions on every other play. The challenges are there for human mistakes, and the Cards were right in their challenges.
But now we're all saying in a flash we can tell the ball was inches short amongst all the tacklers, when in full motion no one could tell where his knee was down until they looked at it again!

I didn't wager a cent on the game and I slept like a babe last night, both mentioned to illustrate the fact that I really didn't care who won or lost the SB. Even so, this unbiased football fan saw the officiating as horribly unbalanced. 11 penalties for 106 yards on the Cards; 7 for 61 on the Steelers (including the final helmet removal 15 yarder). I think the crew must have gotten a call from a NFL supervisor at the end of the 3rd Q, as they called six on the Steelers in the 4th (one was declined). Throughout the first three quarters, the Cards were victims of multiple ticky-tack calls that killed Cardinal drives or kept alive Steeler drives, while the officials repeatedly "swallowed the whistle" on obvious Steeler transgressions. There were two obvious penalties on the Harrison INT return alone!

I doubt that we'll ever hear or read anything on it, but I'd love to see the NFL Supervisor of Officials grading of this performance. I'd give them a D-

As for the original topic of this thread, I thought the Cardinals earned themselves some major respect last night. I think they're really on to something with Ken Whissenhunt and assuming they bring back K. Warner, we might see them again soon.
