Yes, I will concede that because the Big 12 is made up of primarily red states, the rest of the country probably perceives us as backwood uneducated hicks. The difference is that the Big 12 does not have such a high opinion of itself. Given what all we've gone through the last couple of decades, we're undoubtedly the most humble P5 conference in the nation. The Pac, on the other hand, has a very inflated perception of itself, and they've looked down upon the Big 12 since the beginning of time. That arrogance is why the Pac is on life support.
I very rarely ever dumb posts in forums that I am not very active in and my point of views are not known. And Dumb posts much less than most. But your post was dumb, keep that crap in the cave.
I grew up in IA and live in KC. In my experience, there are pockets of fans in both locations. It was never a big deal in my hometown, but in towns that had racetracks, there was more of a following. Since KC built their track, it's increased a bit in popularity, but it's still quite a bit behind the big name sports. I'd say KC ranks sports: NFL, CBB, CFB, MLB, MLS, NASCAR
I grew up going to the race tracks in Boone and the Iowa State Fairgrounds with my parents, and later in life my work has taken me to all 99 counties in Iowa (many times over), so you'd be guessing wrong. Racing is not huge in Iowa.
I will agree that racing and Nascar has fallen in popularity in Iowa, just as it has nationwide over the past decade or so. But that is not unique to Iowa. In the grand scheme of things, Racing is still very popular in Iowa, when compared to other midwest states I would say it ranks in the top of them where racing is popular.
Is it as popular as in North Carolina, probably not. But it is pretty popular, and saying it is not is really not genuine. As a matter of fact if you spend some time searching, most sites believe Iowa is in the top 5 in states for Nascar popularity.

Is that a Pac12 deal or East Coast & West Coast deal?
It's been nearly 30 years since I lived on east coast, but a lot of folks I meet thought there was nothing between Pennsylvania and California. Similar feel during business travels to the Country Club of California.
There really isn’t much there. Long drive. I live in small town Iowa. It’s like witness protection.
I applied for a job in Anaheim and the person I spoke to didn’t know Iowa was a state. Seriously.
I dated a girl from Long Island and she had no idea Chicago was anything more than a moderately sized city. It blew her mind that it was third largest in the US. They seriously know nothing about us and they don't care to.
Midwesterners do seem to care a lot more about what people think of them...

That's not a great look for NASCAR. If we're 4th, that means there's a whole lot of states that couldn't care less and there aren't a whole lot that do care.
I don't feel the Big12 can get too big and fortunately our buy-in is a lot lower. Also not concerned that schools like Oregon, Washington, etc. would look at the Big12 as a stepping stone. No different than hiring a hot young football coach who you know will jump to a blue blood if they have success. Enjoy the ride while they are on-board. Hopefully, they could help the Big12 close the gap with Big10/SEC by 2030.
If a school or pool of schools exceeds the Big12's media rights payout per school of $31.7M- then I would add unless they are a bad fit. Over the next decade, the key is for the Big12 to expand or acquire territory. Adding Cincy (OH), BYU (UT) and UCF (FL) were home runs to expand the Big12's footprint beyond its Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas.
