Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

You just described SEC territory exactly the same way PAC fans describe us.
I laugh at how the Pac fans describe the Big 12 as the truck stop conference, and yet we outwitted their ivory tower conference to the point they're circling the drain. They've become the laughing stock of the country.

I saw an Oregon State fan refer derisively to the Big 12 as a truck stop conference. What does that make Corvallis? It’s basically a copy/paste of Ames

B1G probably take them too. Long way into the future with ACC GOR.

What does the B1G want? Put yourself in their shoes and consider.

1. TV markets are important to them because BTN.
2. Strong universities with good academics and large endowments matter.
3. Football/athletics prowess.

You can argue 1 vs 2, but both are likely a heavier weighting than 3 for the B1G.

In the PAC, that means: UW, Stanford stand out on top. Quite a ways back are CU, ASU, Cal, UO, UA, UU. Additionally, anyone in the PAC would be helpful for travel/geography for USCLA.

In the ACC that means: ND, UNC, UVa, Duke, Pitt. That's enough to choose from, but BC, GT, and Miami could get a look.

It feels to me like the B1G eventually goes to 24 teams, adding 2-4 from the PAC, and 4-6 from the ACC.

Based on that, I think it is key the Big12 thinks the same way - nationwide, and 20-24 schools. Get the best you can from the PAC now, even if that means you get a couple "below average value" schools. When the ACC GoR is over, Big12 won't get to pick from anyone in the top half of the ACC, so be aggressive now. In my mind, get 4 teams that can fill the late slot.

I hope we don't swallow so much of the PAC that we're closed off to more adds when the ACC explodes. I'd be much more excited to have VT, Pitt, and Louisville 5-10 years from now than to have any PAC teams besides AU and ASU.
This

This is why I want no more than 4. Pitt, Lousiville, VT, Miami/NC state/GT would add more value than adding 6 PAC teams

I would debate that. Maybe it's the crowd I hang around with here in Iowa, but I don't know a single person who's into NASCAR. I'm sure there are some, but I'd guess it's a very small percentage.

I would say it WAS really big in its heyday. My folks, who never watched racing at all ever, got into it, even into fantasy drafting drivers for maybe 5-10 years when it was big. But then it fell off and no one cares anymore. I suspect that is a decent summary of it statewide too.

But what is the limit. 20, 24, 32? At what point is there too many. Everyone keeps getting bigger. Everyone expects the SEC and B1G to go to 20 in the future. So if the B12 takes 8 now, that puts us at 20, if the ACC implodes and the SEC and B1G go to 20+, what stops the B12 from going to 24?

I really believe that when the ACC does fall apart their will be 3 conferences of 20-24 teams.

I guess it depends on how you define something being a "big deal." I'm not into it, most of my friends aren't but a few who I've been buddies with since HS are definitely into it. My guess would be that if you go into any local bar in any small to mid-sized town across the state, with populations of a few thousand up to 15,000, you'll see some kind of NASCAR representation on the walls.

I laugh at how the B12 fans describe the SEC as the whatever you said conference, and yet we outwitted their ivory tower conference to the point they're circling the drain. They've become the laughing stock of the country.

And you dont think the SEC is laughing at people like you that label them the way you did? Last I checked they are winning this whole realignment thing and TV money and Football power thing, or at least right their with the B1G.

Out of curiosity why do you want VaTech or NC State? That’s more of a realistic scenario instead of a dream one. I get the Pitt love after the great game with WVU this year but don’t understand the other two.
I’d love to have both of those in the Big 12. I guess it feels like a dream because there’s no public turmoil about the ACC right now (though I know FSU, Clemson, UNC, UVA, Miami are probably looking around the corner.)

I see a lot of ISU in VT and NCST. Strong Ag/engineering programs, similar fans. I live on east coast so I’m biased about going to see the Cyclones play close by. I don’t see either school getting invited to the B1G or the SEC. They fit the Big 12 more than Syracuse, Wake Forest, Duke, or BC.

FWIW, if we could dump all the chips on the table, I’d love to share a conference with Michigan State for similar reasons above.

Corvallis is not a copy/paste of Ames. I think the point was 35 drives through the conference. While the 5 drives through most of the PAC. But whatever.

If we are a truck stop conference, OuT are the lot lizards..

My guess is you grew up in and lived in one of the largest cities in Iowa your entire life....and have rarely if ever ventured out of those cities to experience rural life. Because Iowa as a rural state, the Rural areas are very big on Racing and Nascar. There is a reason there is a racetrack at basically every County Fairground, and then some.

Maybe you havent heard of the Knoxville Nationals, Boone Nationals etc. Racing is Huge in Iowa.
