WBB: General All-NCAA Thread - Not Team Cyclones Stuff

Big 12 newcomers:

BYU(14-13, 9-7 WCC)
Houston(11-14, 8-4 American)
UCF (11-13, 2-10 American)
Cincinnati (9-17, 2-11 American)

Some additional perspective…from ESPN.

UCF tied for first in the American Athletic Conference last season with South Florida, and Houston was third.

BYU is the most successful women's program joining the Big 12. The Cougars have made 14 NCAA tournament appearances and advanced to the Sweet 16 twice (2002 and 2014). This past season, as a No. 11 seed, they upset No. 6 seed Rutgers in the first round before falling to eventual NCAA runner-up Arizona, a No. 3 seed. Nine of the Cougars' NCAA tournament appearances have come under current coach Jeff Judkins, who has had only one losing season since taking over in 2001-02.

Whatever source you're quoting here is at least a year old. BYU's tourney upset of Rutgers happened in 2021, and that coach is retired now. BYU lost all of its talent to the portal or graduation last season. UCF also had a coaching change and lost most of their talent as well. So last season isn't at all representative of the quality of team that will be joining the B12 next year. Maybe the new coaches just need time to build programs. Time will tell.

^This. The newcomers suck in WBB and will be bottom of the league starting out. The "new" league will be fine in MBB and okay in football but there's no way to spin WBB as anything but weaker in a league that was already "down".

Current NET for these teams.
Houston 75
BYU 106
UFC 160
Cinci 184

By NET they would be 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th in the Big 12 with only TCU being worse. It's possible that being in a better league will help their recruiting but that's going to be years to see if it comes to fruition.

Sunday's Big 12 games:

Oklahoma 86, Kansas 80
Only 4 points scored in the last 3:00 of the game -- all OU FT

Texas 74, West Virginia 48
UT started the game with a 17-2 run and didn't look back

It's easy to say that based on this year's performance. A couple of teams...including BYU have shown they can succeed. I'm not saying they won't start out at the bottom, but a couple of the teams have coaches that will bring them up in the standings. Being a part of a better conference will allow them to recruit better players. I suspect we will see them blend in rather nicely after a few years.

I watched the Texas game (first half). WVU had every chance to be ahead of a cold shooting Texas by the half. Texas went EIGHT minutes without a basket. But, woof...WVU was miserable on offense. I don't know how they beat us even when we were having a terrible day. They aren't good in any form or fashion.

WVU lost two starters in our game (I think for the season) - makes a huge difference in their team.
