Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

I think people are underestimating how tough BYU is going to be at home. They seat 19,000 in their arena and they can be very rabid. In addition while Provo isn't "mile high" like Boulder, it is still at altitude and can affect flatlanders' air.
19,000???? What is that? Like 100-125 full families?

You might not care but plenty of people on this thread have talked about not wanting to add utah or other pac schools because they think they are too good for the Big12 or have talked ****. Totally agree with you that these decisions should not and will not be decided by fans. Also agree that the Big12 should 100% take some Pac schools to solidify the big12’s position. I was just responding to the post that wanted the Pac to die. You can still shore up the Big12 and have the PAC live as a P5, the worst P5 but still in existence.
Shed a lot of tears for the big ten’s role in this, did you?

Went to the game there we last played, it’s a tough environment.

Ohio State just cancelled it's non-con home & home with Washington in 2024 & 2025. The Washington AD did not sound happy. Might be impossible for the Huskies to find a high level opponent on such short notice.

Gene was happy because it gives them an 8th home game- so they can afford the cancellation fee.

It makes no difference what they can or can’t do. You don’t want a cancer in the room. Unity.
How would they be a cancer? If the debate is they wouldn't be a great cultural fit- maybe I buy that. Maybe.

But at this point EVERY school in the ACC, Big12 and Pac12 would jumpt to the Big10 or SEC. The incremental $35M doesn't buy wins, but it makes hiring coaches, supporting program operations, building facilities and paying for "Nil" or whatever the future is for athletes to get paid.

I feel bad for the schools that are going to be left without a home but your point is very fair.

It really sucks for everyone, USC/UCLA should not be in the Big 10, or Rutgers or Marlyand. WVU and UCF dont belong in the B12. When Nebtard and Misery left no more regional rivalries for us, yes we have KU/KSU but its not the same. At least OuT is in SEC territory so whatever, UT has ****** this league since 96 along with Nebby.

But here we are, and its not changing.

Go on...

I guess when I think of those two schools, I think of Andrew Luck, David Shaw, Marshawn Lynch driving a cart. I feel like Shaw was a very humble coach.

Or is this a political take?
Nope not political at all. It’s an academic thing. They’ve snubbed their noses to the idea of other schools joining the PAC in the past due to academics. This isn’t some secret. I am not even **** taking them. This has been a fact in the past.

Was that Colorado and Utah? I seriously don't know.

During the realignment cycle when the PAC-12 was looking to poach Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Texas and the other is escaping me, Stanford and Cal were very much against Tech and Oklahoma State due to academics if I remember correctly.

The religious thing with BYU was always a non-starter for a few PAC schools too. Cal doesn’t care about sports, they value being an elite academic institution and Stanford is the Ivy of the west basically. We shall see what happens if they have to actually face being relegated to a G5-level conference. Maybe they then realize that their schools from an academic standpoint will still be just that regardless of the conference their sports play in. Vanderbilt doesn’t lose academic prowess by being in the SEC.

FWIW, I lived in the Bay Area for a few years in a previous life and really enjoyed going to both Cal and Stanford games. I am still very good friends with several Cal grads as a matter of fact. For example, I went to Australia with one of them to see Cal play Hawaii in Sydney to open the 2016 season. Had a GREAT time. I love 'em, but they have their Academic noses up in the air. For some reason, they look down on the Big Xii schools not even realizing that half of the schools in their current conference are no different than the Big Xi schools. Just the way they are. I personally would love to have Cal and / or Stanford in the Big Xii, but if they think they are too good for the Xii Academically, **** 'em!

That's the Truth Ruth!

I still think this ends with the Pac 10 staying together, taking a bad media deal ($7 plus million behind the B12 on media only), and the Pac 10 celebrating. They’ll claim prestige/academics and the rest of the country will laugh.

Enjoy being a 2 bid basketball league with your football champ not in the top 6 for auto bids occasionally. All while on streaming

Probably unrelated to anything, but still notable.

Idk… I’m not sure you can get all the teams to the table to sign a bad deal. Lots of teams could individually blow that up. Oregon and Washington could demand uneven revenue sharing, which would probably nuke the deal for Arizona and some others. Arizona has options. If they push the issue and apply for membership in the big 12 they get in. And we probably take at least 2 at that point. Maybe Oregon and Washington hold together with the other 4-6 teams and add 4 others and sign a bad deal afterward. But most likely they beg the big 10 for a partial share for half a decade or more.

Why do you want to kill the Pac12? I get not liking them after they **** on the Big12 non stop but you should really be hoping they stick around. The ACC raid is still a decade away
there is no place in college athletics for both the PAC 12 AND Big 12 only one will survive in the end. 18 months ago the PAC was drinking champaign and big 12 was where the PAC is now. PAC will survive but at the Mountian West level.

Yeah there are about 20 ways it could shake out, but one is definitely the PAC continues as an entity, but with 2-4 (maybe even 6) teams leaving. They could bring in replacements no matter how meh they are and just be the hind teat of the P5. Maybe UO/UW stay as anchors for the easier playoff access. Even if 6 jumped to the Big12, Cal gave up sports, and Stanford went independent-- they would just basically merge with the MWC and keep the PAC name. I don't know if/how they could lose their A5 status, but I assume they would keep it for a couple years before the bureaucracy took it away.
