Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Why do you want to kill the Pac12? I get not liking them after they **** on the Big12 non stop but you should really be hoping they stick around. The ACC raid is still a decade away

This isn't the old days of college presidents being all brotherly.

It's eat or be eaten. Luckily for most of the B1G, history has them in a big boy league.

The others have to scrape and hope the PAC eats ****.

It's real hard to make grandiose predictions about what's going to happen to the ACC when they won't even start talking about it for a decade.

If it were me, I'd invite the 6 Pacs (Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Utah) and Gonzaga and Creighton as non-football members (1/8th share each). I'd give Oregon and Washington the freedom to negotiate with the Big 10 as they see fit while reaping the rewards of having them in the league while you can in exchange for a slightly reduced share that is still more than they'll get staying where they are with the full understanding that they're eventually headed for the Big 10 with no hard feelings.

When those two leave during the next round of moves, you'll still have a perfectly viable 16 team football/18 team all sports league that would give you some flexibility if someone jumped up over the next half decade.

Stanford and Cal to the Big West with football independence or football only with the Mountain West and, well, sorry about that Wazzu and Oregon State, we still love you but it's not you, it's me.

That's a little harsh. Cincy has made the tourney 9 times since 2010. BYU has 6 tourney appearances since 2010.

Cincy is a middle of the pack team in the Big 12 moving forward. BYU is likely behind them but not some scrub.
I think people are underestimating how tough BYU is going to be at home. They seat 19,000 in their arena and they can be very rabid. In addition while Provo isn't "mile high" like Boulder, it is still at altitude and can affect flatlanders' air.

Right now the big 12 is solidly in the 3 position as long as TCU can keep this up or if another school can rise up. This puts the Big12 in a solid 3/5 position, if the PAC dies, you’re at 3/4. If the ACC gets obliterated like everyone predicts it could be 3/3. It’s a long way to look out but I would want the PAC and ACC to live and be considered P5 just below the big12

We had a hard enough time winning in Boulder, which was usually half full arenas. Provo will be extremely tough.

Seems like the long play is to monetize basketball better, which if true that it’s undervalued as a package with football, makes sense to negotiate separately? Also adds value to bring in Gonzaga potentially, and increases Arizona’s value.

Hasnt Fox said they were out for a long time? Since way back in the exclusive window, they said they were out? Everything I have heard since about the time the B10 contract was announced and the Pac started negotiating is that Fox was not interested in the Pac.
Could be two different things. Fox & ESPN had an exclusive window. Could be they opted out of the exclusive window, but have been in conversations with Pac 12 since, to see if they could get a bargain deal.

I know you come here to try to make condescending posts, but I will do my best to spell this out for you. I don't really care whether or not the Pac-12 **** on the Big-12 a few years ago. Fans hurting each others feelings on social media do not and should not drive these decisions. College sports are going through a major restructuring right now. Some traditional power 5 teams are going to get relegated right now. Others will get relegated when the ACC eventually gets picked apart. At this point you grab what you need to to cement the Big-12 as the third major conference. You don't leave enough behind for the remainder to pose any future threat. This is the exact mistake the Pac-12 made by not adding from the Big-12 when it had the chance, and it is likely going to result in the Pac-12's death.

You really don’t want that either though as that will inevitably be bad for the Big12 if they are viewed as a non power 5 and being equal to the MW is not being in the P5.
That could be true. But up to this point more money didn't equate to being elite on the field. So like in the past, the key will be for Big12 and ACC to beat the Big10 or SEC when opportunities arise.

I think the Trojan horse is when the CFB Playoff goes out to open bid for the 2026 season. Not convinced there will still be 6 spots for the highest rated conference champs.

You might not care but plenty of people on this thread have talked about not wanting to add utah or other pac schools because they think they are too good for the Big12 or have talked ****. Totally agree with you that these decisions should not and will not be decided by fans. Also agree that the Big12 should 100% take some Pac schools to solidify the big12’s position. I was just responding to the post that wanted the Pac to die. You can still shore up the Big12 and have the PAC live as a P5, the worst P5 but still in existence.

What, you don’t appreciate the fans from the schools that are afterthoughts in the b1g coming over, patting us on our heads, saying we have a ‘nice little second-rate conference’ and telling us how it should be ran? Lol.

A couple of those schools (cough Cal and Stanford) have too big of elitist egos that’s why.
Go on...

I guess when I think of those two schools, I think of Andrew Luck, David Shaw, Marshawn Lynch driving a cart. I feel like Shaw was a very humble coach.

Or is this a political take?

I disagree. I was against Utah because there is a lot of unity in the league now and I don’t want to add teams who think they are too good for it.

As far as wanting it to be a P5, I don’t want that. I don’t want more competition for good tv slots or dollars. Take the good teams and bury the rest. This is a business and in business when you get the chance you bury your competitors.

I get the reluctance to add schools that think they're too good for the B12 after dealing with the six former members over the last 13 years. However, what is Utah (or Oregon, or Washington) going to do to stir up trouble or when they don't get their way? Threaten to leave? And go where?

The ACC's set in stone with their GOR. Every other school would jump to the B10 or SEC if they got an offer, but until the offer comes there's nothing they can do. The PAC will be a further reduced version of what they're leaving. Independence hasn't really worked for anyone who's not Notre Dame.

It makes no difference what they can or can’t do. You don’t want a cancer in the room. Unity.

Don't mistake lack of better options for unity.

Anybody from the B12 would jump at the opportunity to get into the B10 or SEC. If there's nowhere better to go, everyone might as well work together to make this as good as possible. Nobody can hurt the conference without hurting themselves in the process.

Of course. All of the teams in the Big 12 now know their place in the hierarchy in CFB. Some of these PAC schools still have a lot of arrogance about their position and will be a headache because of that I promise you.

This x1000. There isn’t a school in the league that wouldn’t jump tomorrow if the Big 10 or SEC came calling. No one is asking for a disproportionate share because none of the schools are heads above the rest and have leverage to pull rank.

And Utah’s arrogance is only lasting as long as the Canzaro delusion about the value of the league still fools people. Reality is going to smack Utah in the face.
