Interesting article from the 'Couch Burners'

To me there is a big difference between hate on the court/field and animosity between the fan bases. We all despised the flag game with KSU,and disliked Huggyball and Holgerson and the dude who bumped Wally in FB. Doesn't mean their fan bases are bad especially if you ignore the internet trolls. I've been to all but Austin and Lubbock and the only fans I've never really liked were OU they were just snobby and not very friendly, not personally mean.
I thought the OU atmosphere was pretty boring for such a big time program.
I thought the UT fans were pretty fun after a game in Austin. The town itself is pretty awesome though. Think if Madison WI was a warm weather town.

Yeah that's a joke. WV shoves guys in the back on nearly every rebound, because they know the refs are likely watching the ball in the air and not the lane. They are literally coached how to foul and not get caught for advantage.

On the play late in the first half where the WVU lane turned into a bowling alley (and there was no call at all), which led to Grill's run-out 3, Lipsey got trucked twice from behind by the same guy.

**** off WVU.

They're still having nightmares of this after ISU easily disposed of them in the Big 12 Championship in 2017.

0 Titles ever since joining the league.

When I saw that live and everytime I see it since I worry abou the guy who was foolish enough to come between Burton and his basket. I'm pretty sure he had to have the same surgery Purdy is having.

Probably a term/word that doesn’t need to be said again. This is something a Hawkeye fan would say
No it isn't, though I can see why a person not fully versed in the context might think so.

I'm not calling the players thugs (as a Hok would), I'm calling Huggy a thug (which he very much is). I recall Huggins being called Thuggins and his brand of basketball was thus Thugball. (I've therefore modified my earlier post to make it clear that it is Thugginsball).

Thank you for your opinion.

I'm not a hater of brown people using "thug" as a nominally polite substitute for the N-word here.

LOL any context to that pic? That's a heck of a shiner.

yeah, Huggins teams have been called thugs for years. That's what in-your-face defense gets. fans hate it.

I have no issue with what EM said. he said a kick to the head seemed dirty and should be reviewed. Kicks to the head, last I looked are not part of basketball.

Accidents happen, for sure. But I can see a player being upset in the moment if a teammate gets injured by a kick (or hard foul for that matter).

A hard foul to make sure the layup isnt made can subjectively be called a dirty play, although most would do it.

Anyroad, as for ISU getting fouled, they have a rep for fouling and the refs likely are aware of it(if not Huggy reminded them).

From CNN: (pretty much sums up what happened)

Why West Virginia Will Win

Iowa State fouls. A lot.

It’s a strong Cyclone team that’s been able to hover close to the top ten overall in the rankings, but it doesn’t do a thing on the move, it never gets to the free throw line, and that stifling D generates a whole lot of fouls.

It all works because the fouls slow things down, but no one in the Big 12 gets paid on the free throw line like West Virginia does. If it can get there 20ish times and make 15ish or more, it should be fine.

ISU has a "rep" for fouling? If not Huggy "reminded" them?

When the foul disparity was ISU-7 WVU-1.........Huggy was reminding them (in their face).

Of all programs and coaches to be reminding officials the other school has a "rep".

No......it's Huggy that has the "rep". And certain officials are either afraid or respect him for that. When it's neither......WVU has a problem and Huggy is usually T'd up and looks like Bob the Tomato from Veggie tales for most of the game.

It's been that way for years be it Cincinnati....Kansas State or WVU.

I’m fully versed on the word, thank you. It’s an ignorant word and one that shouldn’t be used, no matter the context you want to spin it as. Do better.

You do better. I don't need your ridiculous take.

The word is still a useable part of the English language regardless of what you think. It isn't hate speech on its face. Could it be used in a hateful way? Sure. Have I used it that way? No.

The only ignorance here is displayed by your overly broad brush.

I'll do us both a favor and put you and your thought police shtick on ignore.

So now it's the damned media to blame? How about we step up and knock down a few FT's? How about we shoot a decent % from the field. This loss was on us and we need to get this turned around quickly.

Take your L here buddy and do better. You could’ve used other words to describe what you were trying to say, that word isn’t one of them. People like you blow my mind, you dig your heels in and can’t admit when you’re wrong. Once again, do better. You sound like a Hawk fan.

My wife grew up in the inner city and has zero problems with it and in fact uses it quite often.

So just relax. Everything is what you make of it.

We have a weak, cheap, over sensitive fan base. I’m happy to be a Clone but our fans deserve it half the time.

In before a weak mind says I’m not a fan.

It is funny how fan bases look at it through their teams colored glasses, because ISU is playing very, very similar to how WV has played the for years.

I've never seen a WVU game look as beautiful and fun to watch as either of our KU games this year. At times I'd call both of those games very fluid in spite of the intensity.

Last year, sure.

There have been a lot of games this year where it's very clear Thuggie Ball is not the end goal.
