That game was stolen from us.

I haven't watched it yet.
Texas, Baylor, and Kansas didn't have issues there.

Like I've said numerous times, you can say it's only 1 game and a Quad 1 road loss, but these that keep piling up are the reasons why we go 10-8 instead of 13-5 and winning a Big 12 title.

10-8 would be awesome for this group.

They are NOT conference officials. There's no such thing.

To an extent.

If I hire a freelancer and they suck donkey balls I hire somebody different the next time.

Not entirely accurate to act like the Big 12 has absolutely no control over who officiates their games. Some of these guys should not be officiating games in a conference that has dominated the NCAA tournament.

I've wondered about that as well. Due to geographic isolation, WVU home games theoretically could have a completely different pool of officials than most of the rest of the Big 12 that sees a more common group of officials. It may not work in reverse because WVU would see a much more homogenous group of officials the Big 12 uses when they are playing on the road. For the other nine teams going into Morgantown, it might be groups of officials they only work with one time a year. It's just hard to quantify how much they benefit by it, (if there's any benefit at all.)
I’m not sure if it was the same ref who did all the overturned calls or not but that made it clear these guys don’t work together often. They were each officiating their own game instead of trusting the other to take their portion of the court.

No way. Refs would call a foul on iowa st, and WVU would make 2 free throws

Exactly. Unless we hit a buzzer beater there was a 99.9999999999% chance WVU was going to the line if they didn’t make a shot or getting a +1 on any shot.

Find me the last game we had three players foul out in regulation and two others with 4 fouls in regulation.

Doesn’t even have to be ISU, find me any other game with any team losing that many and having two more with 4 before overtime.

It’s not a common thing. Ollie would have had to finish this thing if we went to overtime.

For the record this is the only game this season where the officials definitely dictated the result. Missouri/UConn/Iowa we got our but kicked. OKSt and Tech we peed down our leg even though the calls were terrible vs Tech the final ten minutes. @KU we lost playing a good game.

Tonight was nothing like those. First half of the Baylor game in football was like this, but this was MOST of the game.
Nailed it. Completely agree.

After calming down I’m glad to parse this one to different categories.

God awful, incompetent officiating.

Chances to win despite the god awful incompetent officiating that we needed to take advantage of.
Hawk friend said a long time ago, iowa state has to beat the refs. He's not smart, but...

This is such a stupid take. There is so much variance in college bball and especially in the B12 where any road game is tough to win. Oklahoma beat #2 Alabama by 24 a couple weeks ago. WVU was favored by 5 tonight, so we played exactly as the #11 team should. It’s reasonable to be upset with awful officiating as it makes it that much harder and in this case probably cost us the game.
And Arkansas over Kentucky.

The number of bad calls was terrible but would we be talking about the foul outs or total number of fouls, if guys like Lipsey and Grill quit putting themselves in position to pick up cheap fouls? We could easily wipe out 10 fouls a game by conceding 3 or 4 easy baskets (where we are beat), not bodying beyond the 3 point arc, and senseless reach ins in the lane. We did the same ****, particularly Lipsey, in the Tech game.

You'd think we could figure that out, you know, before the 3/4 point of the season.

Play like you're the #11 team in the country. No excuses.

I fully disagree. I like how we responded in every way.

8 against 5. Banked in 3. Mugged on most plays. Redicuoulus reversed calls and odd flagrant crap.

We showed grit and poise, Lipsey saw the ball go in the bucket and the hustle was there all night. They didn't hang their head when WV was blazing hot early. It's annoying and wrong but we'll be tougher for it come tournament time.

If You get all the conference calls it makes you soft in the tourney like Kansas most years.

I don't agree with much that you have to say, but I agree with this. I'm sorry, but quit bodying guys up on the dribble once they're by you. There's no reason for that. If they get a layup, they get a layup. If ISU would quit with the dumb fouls, they would win a lot more games.

Yeah that is something TJs teams so far have been just absolutely horrible at. They make it so, so much worse than simply getting beat, because they don't even foul hard enough to cause opponents to miss shots.

There was more than one foul they were called for when actively trying not to foul.

Those are incredible facts but I hate to burst your bubble using those facts........they didn't have a chance in the final minutes. Only a buzzer beater would have won that for ISU.

And with how they so easily flipped calls tonight.......I'm not so sure they wouldn't have reviewed and found a way to change even that.

One example of a dumbass foul was Lipsey catching an arm on the leg under the basket. Was trying to avoid at the last second, but he should have even BEEN in that position.

Notice how the same thing has happened to us repeatedly? Key players picking up stupid fouls, limiting minutes and making it harder to win on the road?

When the same thing happens repeatedly it's hard to cry about the refs.

I don't understand why anyone is surprised by this. It happens every stinking time we play in Morgantown. I only Googled the last decade but you get the picture. Only twice in the last decade have they called more fouls on one of the most agressive teams in all of college basketball.

2022 - 24 fouls called on us. Lost
2021 - 29 fouls called on us. Lost
2020 - 19 fouls called on us. Lost
2019 - 18 fouls called on us. Lost

2018 - 21 fouls called on us. Lost (they actually called more fouls on Bob's muggers (23))

2017 - 21 fouls called on us. Lost
2016 - 22 fouls called on us. Lost

2015- 27 fouls called on us. Two point win. (our last win in Morgantown).

2014 - 20 fouls called on us (called 23 on the muggers but they destroyed us 102-77)

2013- 20 fouls called on us. Two point win.
