Cyclones MBB in 2024 Maui Invite

when my wife and i went in 2018 we got tickets from a scalper and paid $250/seat to see ISU vs Illinois.

talking to people in Maui that week it sounded like 2018 was a very well attended tournament given the rabid fanbases in the field. Duke, Gonzaga, Arizona, Illinois, SDSU, ISU, Xavier, Auburn were all in participating and save for Auburn, all those programs have fanbases that LOVE their bball program.

2024 the teams attending are Colorado, UCONN, Dayton, ISU, Memphis, Michigan St, UNC and TBD SEC team. UNC, MSU, UCONN and ISU will show out very well. Dayton and Memphis probably. Colorado probably the "weakest" fanbase

Duke fans were spending crazy amounts of money on tickets.

You go thru Maui site or ISU?

Couldn't get them through ISU and the Maui site sold out pretty much immediately. For those that aren't able to get tickets prior to the tournament, I would be down at the arena when the ticket office opens for those that have all session tickets to pick up. Was able to get our Arizona tickets that way. The other two games we went down each morning to hunt down tickets.

When we went last time we were able to Uber everywhere and not worry about renting a car (wife + me). It was a long ass ride from the airport to the gym/hotels though. I want to say we spent about $150 on Ubers in 5 or 6 days.

Prepare to sweat your ass off in that gym too. I don't believe it has A/C so if it's hot outside it's hot as hell in the gym.

Everything is really expensive (tourist trap...makes sense). The island at least to us seemed very...run down.

The NFL is on at 7am which was kind of awesome. Sunday Night Football was done around 5 if I remember right.

Watch your flight back...we had to check out of our room at noon but our flight wasn't until 10 which was a timing pain in the ass. If I could do it over again I'd probably pay for the room for the extra day.

You will be royally jet lagged both directions. The first few days you'll be up at 4am. When we were there last time you saw the Duke/Auburn/Xavier fans roll out first....then Iowa State and Illinois...then SDSU/Gonzaga/Arizona fans. The west coast people were up at "normal" times...everyone else was up before anything opened up for breakfast. Leaving Hawaii at 10pm and getting into LAX at 5am and MSP at 9am is BRUTAL unless you can sleep on the plane.

I could really go for a Mai Thai from Monkeypod right about now.

Was there in 2018 the gym is air conditioned planning on going in 2024 stay for 7 days

Went to Maui last time and will be going back again. Ticket situation is tough - we got lucky and got them online last time immediately after they became available.

The only helpful thing is that the tickets are per game and not per session. So you’re only competing with 2 fan bases instead of all 8.

What’s the word on this year? Saw chatter about Orlando but not confirmed.

Odd it worked out that we've recently played UNC, UConn, and Memphis in holiday tourneys. Projects to be a really good field as always.

The ticket package through Iowa State runs from flying to Hawaii on Sunday leaving Hawaii late Wednesday night that entails you getting to your airport of origin on thanksgiving, we decided to stay at the resort for 3 additional nights then took off from Hawaii on Sunday night!!
