Jaz Kunc return timing?

TJ said on the coaches show last night that Jaz has a dr appointment today, which would clarify when he would return. If cleared, he'll practice Thursday and Friday and, potentially, play Saturday.

I'm sure he'll need to get back to game conditioning. So minimal minutes his first couple back? Will his hand strength be reduced and affect ball handling, rebounding, and shooting?

Not even concerns, just honest questions. I don't know the exact nature of his injury or rehab.

Once he’s back, I can’t imagine why Bob would even get one minute of playing time. Not trying to rip on my guy, he’s just not a big 12 caliber player.

I believe it was just a broken finger. Once it's healed, I would think he could go at 100%. He may need to shake off some rust in terms of shooting, but his defense and rebounding shouldn't require a big adjustment period. Knowing Jaz, he'll get into the mix of things once he's cleared.

Based on how KU draws fouls, I'd love to have his size and determination back Saturday.

At some point this year, we might face a team where it is critical to have someone that can physically manage a big fella without worrying about fouling. He'll continue to have a role, though it will probably be diminished with Jaz coming back.

And it was his non- shooting hand too right?

Jaz and Rob don't play the same position at all, if anything it's Watson and King's minutes he'll be taking. I'd love to say he would take Rob's but we haven't been playing literally any small ball. Or TJ hates King, idk something weird going on with him

A broken finger is a weird thing. Even running can be painful so hopefully he's healed enough to be able to play a bit or at least get enough IBs in for two hours' time.

They wouldn't let Kunc play if he wasn't able to rebound, dribble, and shoot. The biggest drop-off we'll see is his conditioning.

You can work out and run, etc with a broken finger...it's not like he's been sitting around eating cheeseburgers because he had a splint on. Not really worried about conditioning for Jaz. More that he'll feel confident to go grab a board or alter a shot with his off hand until he's comfortable with it again.

Yeah, from what has been said, it sounds like Jaz is a long shot to play Saturday, but great news about Grill!

Time to find out if TJ sandbags guys being ready, or sandbags the extent of the injury.

CMC does the latter, with "day to day" famously meaning "RIP".

Not game shape but I would think he has been able to keep his conditioning pretty good being a hand injury vs a ankle or knee. I think your hand strength question is a good one. I personally think it would be harder to keep Grill in condition with a lingering back injury and he played 20+ didn't he? But Jaz has been out a lot longer. I just hope he plays Sat.
