Meet Herman

It sounds like TH has an excellent football IQ. Keeping the other teams off balance and mixing up plays are something I think we have been missing for quite a while. With Arnaud, the RBs and WRs we have the options should be there to be able to grind out a score and score quick. Of course, being a Mensa member doesnt hurt.

If Herman can do with ISU's offense what he did for Rice's we should have some serious fun watching the Cyclones next year. We have the talent at QB, WR, and TE to open things up. I am also excited to see some of the guys coming off of redshirts (Schwartz mainly) Just think of a short yardage package with Mansfield and Schwartz in the backfield.

Really pleased with this hire.

And here we are, all optimistic about football again, coming off a 2-10 season. We are gluttons for punishment.

why is he wearing a blue jacket? I thought we took blue out of the ISU color scheme....:jimlad:

It'll be funny when during the season, one of the Nancy's comes on here yelling that he's the dammed dumbest smart kid he knows.:jimlad: Oopty oop.. I'll show you an oopty oop.

I think it's also what you know.

I think all DI coaches get their start as a football player or a grad assistant.

That was a trivia question during one of the bowl games. There are currently 5 D1 coaches who never played in college. Leech, Wiese (Notre Dame), and I can't recall the other 3.

Mark Mangino (Kansas)
Dennis Franchione (Texas A&M)
Paul Johnson (Georgia Tech)

Something I caught in the interview was that he said when he was the OC for Texas State, his team averaged over 200 ypg rushing...I think that would be encouraging to ARob, Bo, and the rest of the running backs...That Bobcat team was the same team that lost in OT to UNI in the 2nd or 3rd round of the playoffs that year...they also had a very good quarterback (Barrick Nealy??) that year and still ran a lot. Sounds like if you can contribute, TH will make the most of it.

I remember when we hired Herman, there were some Rice fans on the board. They said that the main reason that Herman didn't run more at Rice, was because he didn't have enought talent at RB. This goes right along with tailoring the offense to the talent available and also bodes well for our talented running backs who will most likely play a larger role than the Rice RB's did. I think spreading out the defense and running when they don't expect it will be much more effective than lining up in the I formation and running it up the gut just for the sake of running it.

I was living in Texas in 2005 when that same Texas State team nearly upset A&M in College Station. They passed it all over the field and exposed how poor A&M's secondary was. Especially on the deep ball.

Should be fun to watch next year.

They weren't the only ones that exposed A&M's secondary at College Station that year.:notworthy:

Sad thing, that may have been one of the most enjoyable games I've ever watched as a Cyclone.

Is it blue or black? Kind of like the black t-shirt with the I State maybe?

Reading the article again and watching the video, I am most excited by the possibility that we won't be outsmarted for once!

I think Rice usually plays 1-2 Big XII teams per year. So I feel Herman knows what he is up against. This year they played Texas, Vandy, and TUlsa and still made a bowl game.

That's why I was not surprised by our explosion that game. They had a bad secondary and Texas State (with less talent) took it to them. What surprised me in our game vs. A&M was our defense holding together for four quarters.

It's black. It's like the black shirts with the I-State logo some of the coaches wore last year. Except it is a pullover.

Black > Blue
