49ers - Brock Purdy - Still and Always #1

Been listening to some national radio shows today and you are really starting to hear more push back on the Purdy love. Not a majority by any means, but there is a certain segment of the sports world that just can't stand everyone having a good time with a story and feels a need to **** all over it. They are definitely getting louder and you can tell they are really starting to invest in his failure so they can say "I told you so!" Hopefully Purdy can keep the hype train rolling all the way to the Super Bowl!
There are always going to be people that want to piss on the parade. There is no doubt that he is surrounded by a lot of talent, and a lot of guys that can make a 10 yard pass into a TD, but in the end, he is getting the ball to the right guy on time and accurately. That makes a huge difference in the YAC that the team is having. He is also great at the fake pitches, and bootlegs that make the defense think. It isn't all just dumb luck that guys are getting open and running wild after the catch.

Not a good deal of NFL history that backs up any notion of putting in a completely unknown QB and having the team go off.

They shouldn’t **** on him too much.

I mean the Dolphins have quite a bit of talent on offense and Skyler looked like poo a lot today

As Blum said in the podcast, jimmy G threw like 9 passes in a playoff game a few years ago. Shanahan trusts Purdy way more. He’s letting Purdy cook.

In a one of the posted YouTube videos here the guys were talking that what we are seeing is Kyle Shanahan calling all the plays that he wants too. With Lance and Jimmy he couldn't fully implement the offense that he wanted.

What is Lances deal? From a tools standpoint he should be one of the best in the league. Is he just not getting through his reads quickly? He might be off after his first contract based on the look of things.

Purdy has played more NFL and college games then Lance has. Lance also played at north Dakota state. Not exactly playing teams the caliber of Oklahoma and Texas.

He's just not very good. Very athletic, but not an accurate passer at all. I really doubt he gets a 2nd contract with 9ers unless he improves drastically in the next 2 years.

49ers will get Cowboys/Bucs winner.
Not sure which team I prefer. Bucs played terrible against the 49ers in their game a month ago, but I'm sure Brady would love nothing more than to redeem himself. Even so, I think I'm pulling for the Bucs.

I don't think there's anything off he's basically a rookie who didn't have a lot of snaps in college. Might still turn into a good QB but needs more seasoning. The thing is there are more question marks with him than with Brock.

I would love for the 49ers to beat the Cowboys since I'm not a fan of them but I think they pose a tougher matchup than the Bucs. Against this D Brady would not fair we'll imo.

He reminds me of Love at GB. Drafted because of somewhat blind belief, but even more so for Lance. Both should be really strong QBs but I expect both to be journeymen like Geno Smith. Maybe they have a breakout season down the line like Geno, but doubt either does it with their rookie stops.

Exactly. Nfl scouts fall in love with measurables. Those two guys have them. Even though they had little to no high level experience in college. On the other hand, Purdy played a tough schedule without a bunch of nfl talent around him. Easier for scouts to pick apart his game.

Lance almost seems like a NBA draft pick to me, and by that I mean drafted on potential, not developed skills. The problem with that in the NFL is that there isn’t a g-league to get regular playing time and also if you’re not producing by your second or at the very latest 3rd year you are a complete bust.

I think at least in his case and to a much lesser extent Wentz’s case we’re seeing that drafting someone with lots of game experience and established skills is the safer bet.

Trey Lance attempted 318 passes in college.

Brock attempted 1,467 passes in college. Brock had 4x the college pass attempts.

Brock also had an extra half season to learn the playbook before he had to play.

How do you figure? Lance sat on the bench the entire season last year behind Jimmy G. He came into the season as the guy. Wasn't getting it done in the preseason and wasn't good in the first couple of regular season games before the injury. He has a LONG way to go before he is as good as Brock. Let alone better.
