Great stuff from Dresser and Swiderski about growing pains. It's just nuts how confident Paniro and Swiderski are.

Doesn’t sound like Casey or Julien are guarantees for this weekend.

Sounds like we might see, Redding at 141? Maybe Frost? He also mentioned Gaitan and Rojas for 174.

What was Degen's injury to his shoulder? Labral tear? Seems very similar here....at the end Swiderski talks about not wanting to get underneath and extend himself on shots needing to change his style, just like Degen. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous hearing that. Degen was never the same. It's easy to say you're fine and you'll tough it out, but actually performing at a high level is a whole different thing. If there is one person on the team that could do it though it'd be Swiderski.

Idk why but anytime I see shoulder injuries I immediately go to Matt McDonough senior year.

Dresser saying he’ll need possible minor shoulder surgery after the season basically says he won’t be healthy through March.

Not ideal.

So been racking my brain on this since seeing it last night.

The question is do you pull the kid this year get him surgery get a medical and not use up a year of eligibility? If he is able to go and grab an AA I probably wouldn't do what I asked but you'd have to be playing Russian roulette with 5 in the chamber that it won't get worse.

I’ve been thinking about that as well. If he continues to wrestle this year I am assuming he is near healthy.

Seems like a ticky-tack situation.

All along I just chalked it up to a hammer of a wrestler having their first "injury" and it can mess with anyone pretty good. Then listening to Dresser sounds like nope there had been an issue before arriving. Honestly idk what I'd do and that's why I'm on a message board and sitting in the stands yelling instead of in the corner coaching! Casey did admit to basically being terrible with weight during the off-the-mat time so is that the biggest play in all of this? I really hope so because that can be situated out. He did even say he felt like going into Iowa he was at the best place overall as far as everything went.

I totally agree with this. But didn't Jarrett wear a shoulder thing similar to Casey the year he AA? It's also not apples to apples given that their two styles could not be more different (well any style compared to Degen's wouldn't be apples to apples but I think you guys know what I mean).

If the injury makes Casey hesitant to attack, then that is very bad. He’s not the same unless he’s constantly attacking.

I’m still in the camp that thinks last week’s performance was more due to his weight and rust. That’s why I want him to get as many weigh ins as possible from here on out. More extended time off and then hope he can perform in March seems like a bad idea.

I'm with Crab. Get him the weigh ins and matches if he's going the rest of the year. His conditioning wasn't where it needed to be against Vazquez. Speaking of hesitant to attack, it was encouraging hearing him say he needed to get his hands on him more early and often. Best 41 in the country on the feet with snaps and level changes.

Best coach in his ear about this with Metcalf

No. AA'd in 2019 (Still love that Lugo match). 2020 Cliff Keen is when he injured his shoulder.

Degen did wear a similar brace as have many others. One difference vs injured Degen & CS is we didn't see CS have to stop the match to take injury time because his shoulder had dislocated or "popped out". Degen had quite a few matches wen he had to take injury time and it looked like he didn't reach at all. CS was still reaching a bit with his wrapped shoulder. Both of his ankle picks included the injured arm being on the head which is another good sign. I'm hopeful that CS shoulder is not close to being as serious as Degen's. I also think they will let CS wrestle a few more matches before throwing in the towel on him this year and letting Redding/Ramazan/Frost take over. Corey Clark won a title with a tore up shoulder so it can be done. I'm not putting a title or bust expectation on CS but I'm sure he is.

I always go back to T-Nick. He placed 3rd with only one arm, and he often had it pop out during matches. He said that he just had to learn to manage the pain. I don't think that we are seeing anything close to that situation here.

Our own Kyven Gadson is an example of someone who came back from shoulder surgery and won a title.

If he has a torn labrum, the shoulder is unstable.

The condition will not get better during the season and there is high probability it will get worse.

Shoulder surgery has evolved a lot in the last 15-20 yrs, resulting in a high success rate.

I hope he has it surgically repaired, if indeed there is a torn labrum.

I think (and I have no knowledge if this is true) that bulking up and strengthening the shoulder would be beneficial, so would make sense to go to 149/157 in the future.

Probably not but slightly maybe.

I dislocated my shoulder (torn labrum), have MS in Biomechanics and work in Orthopaedics. I don’t know everything and hope he doesn’t battle this for the next 4 yrs.
