*** Official Texas Tech vs #14 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

They've got some young talent filling in for Batcho and Isaacs right now, but they are unproven as go-to guys. I think we focus on slowing down Harmon and Obanor and pounding the rock into our posts, going inside-out to get open looks for Grill/Kalscheur.

Harmon and Obanor played 88 of 90 minutes in the OT loss to OU on Sat. Expect them to be on the floor the whole game.

I was looking at those bench players who are filling in, they are all 6'5"ish guards:

Demaurian Williams is a junior transfer from Gardner-Wedd - shoots ~38% from 3, played a lot at G-W but not much so far this year

Elijah Fisher is a top-100 recruit from Canada who hasn't done much at all - did we recruit him? The name seems familiar

Kerwin Walton is a UNC transfer and a real mystery to me. I'm sure we recruited him, he's out of MN. He played quite a bit during the season the last two years for UNC, then didn't play hardly at all the last two months including the tourney - and then is averaging ~10mpg this year and not doing a ton.

Gotta protect our home court to separate us from the rest of the pack in this crazy tough conference

Quite literally, any team TT has faced with a pulse, they have lost. Of course that can change but it's a fact that any decent team they have gone up against, it didn't end well for them. Are they still out a couple/few players?

Fisher has really struggled. Was a 5 star in 2023 before reclassifying into 2022 and then reranked a Top 50 player.

Kerwin Walton has also really struggled at Tech. A weird fit for him going to a defensive system like Tech but it sounds like he got a six figure NIL deal to do so. If you put the pieces together, he may be one of the ones causing NIL chemistry issues on the team. Making a lot of money and essentially had been phased out their rotation before the injuries.

We could lose it. Tech will be pretty desperate for a W tonight.

This is my biggest concern, I think we will get a tremendous effort from Tech tonight. The good guys need to match that level or they will likely lose.

If Tech comes out and does NOT have that level of intensity, then I think they are cooked for this year. Not saying they are quitting on Adams, just that they don't care enough to make any noise and they will be near the bottom.

Literally can say that about every single remaining game. Nothing new. We just have to play like we have been. We do that, we win. We don't, we likely lose.

Yep but I'm also thinking in the psychological piece. 0-3 with strong capabilities is a tough team.

Let's see how this thread goes if the game doesn't go well. I'd guess lots of 'How can ISU be ranked and lose to a 0-3 team?' and those passive 'not a thorough search' posters will come back around.

Crowd will be much softer than the sellout Saturday home game vs Baylor on New Years Eve. The number of unsold seats from ISU despite $6 price points, the number of listings on the secondary market and here show a swath of season ticket holders will be absent, and the students are not back yet.
Based on the crowd at TCU, I don't think a smaller Hilton crowd will have any affect on the Cyclones.

I predicted the TCU road win but said we'd hit a rough patch afterwards...and now...I'm saying...rough patch doesn't start yet...Clones win.
