49ers - Brock Purdy - Still and Always #1

Man, I'm getting old. I feel like whatever that was, it went right over my head.

No you didn't he just SUCKED. Worst halftime act ever in the history of Hilton Coliseum But can someone post something positive about Purdy and the Niners to get this back on subject. I apologize for my part in the thread derail.

I think some people (very few, usually Iowa fans) are losing sight of this. It's an incredible story.
At the end of the 2021 football season, I think any sane Cyclone fan would have thought and/or said that Brock was more than likely going to be a UDFA, and we hoped...HOPED...that he would find a spot on an NFL team's practice squad.

Fast-forward to the last day of the draft. He's the very last pick, Mr. Irrelevant, going to the 49ers. Again, hopefully he makes the practice squad, maybe be 3rd string behind Lance and Garoppolo. Hey, he's on the 55 man roster! Then Lance goes down in the preseason. Garoppolo goes down a few weeks ago. When I saw it come across Twitter that Purdy was in the game after Garoppolo's injury, I was just hoping he could hang in there. He's obviously done a LOT more than just hang in there.

From this time last year until now, Purdy's expectations went from hopefully being a UDFA on a practice squad to there being a strong possibility he significantly helps his team get to the Super Bowl.

That's crazy.

If Brock gets to the Super Bowl he has a great chance of being rookie of the year, even though he hasn't played most of the games. It is an award for the Most Valuable Player, and if Brock can continue to elevate the 49ers offense he will be most valuable.

Brock will be nowhere near the Super Bowl when ROtY is awarded. It is a regular season award and is awarded as soon as the regular season ends.

The award is announced Super Bowl weekend.

From Wikipedia:

Ballots are cast at the end of the regular season, before the playoffs. Since 2011, winners of the AP Rookie of the Year awards are announced at the NFL Honors presentation the night before the Super Bowl along with the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year Award and other AP awards.

Always thought Purdy reminded me quite a bit of Drew Brees. 6'0" QB with arm strength questioned if it could be overcome from college to pros. While Purdue's offense seemed built much more around slinging the ball around, their numbers aren't much different.

Purdy CAREER STATS @ ISU
PASS YDS 12,170
TDS 81 INTS 33
COMP 993 ATT 1,462 PCT 67.6
Games 48

Drew Brees @ Purdue
PASS YDS 11,792
TDS 90 INT 45
COMP 1,026 ATT 1,678 PCT 61.1
Games 45

Never thought BP should or would be close to Brees, or even a 'Brees-Lite'. Personally felt more like he could have a similar path as Chase Daniel in the pros coming from Mizzou. His college stats:
PASS YDS 12,515
TDS 101 INT 41
COMP 1,094 ATT 1,609 PCT 68.0
Games 52

My sincere hope is BP's career is much more like the former versus the latter. Regardless, I hope he & SF win it all this season. Beyond exciting watching him so far.

He's up to 3rd best odds at winning offensive rookie of the year. Garrett Wilson WR for the Jets should pass the 1,000 yard mark before the season is over and maybe the only reason Brock doesn't get it. Here's to crushing it the final two games!

The situation on the Jets is pretty gross. The whole Zach Wilson thing plus Breece tearing his ACL.

The Jets receivers *hate* Zach Wilson. It sucks because that team has quite a bit of young and fun to watch talent being absolutely flushed down the toilet by Zach Wilson's walnut brain. Hopefully they can flush that loser down the toilet so I can enjoy watching Breece and the Good Wilson light up the scoreboards next year.

The award is announced Super Bowl weekend.
My mistake. I should have said that ballots are cast immediately after the regular season ends. You are correct that it is awarded later. The point is that nobody voting on the award will know how a rookie did in the playoffs when they vote so making the Super Bowl won't affect the chance to win.

I've usually hated (more often than not) the 49ers for decades but getting someone with the last pick in the draft who saves your bacon is otherworldly.
