***Official 2022 World Cup Thread***

I’m no star athlete, but on numerous occasions I’ve had a cat clip my heel just the right way (and not hard - just brushing past it) and it nearly knocked me on my ass. Now, instead of walking down the hall, instead I’ve been running around the pitch for 80 minutes on a hot, humid day and, at full sprint, someone trying to steal the ball comes in cleats up and instead crashes into my legs. Funny that if this was baseball and this was a runner sliding into home cleats up it would be viewed as the runner deserving of a beating (or at least deserving of the HBP that’s coming his way next time he bats), but if this was soccer? No - the guy who took the dirty tackle needs to shut up, quit feigning injury, and get back in the damn game already. The double standard is so ridiculous it just makes non-soccer fans look stupid. Remember, these are the idiots that complained about Pulisic faking injury after scoring against Iran when he took a knee to the nuts, the proof being 10 minutes later he was out there trying to finish the half.

I also do this sometimes.

- Only a game winning FG is exciting in football, the other FGs really aren't at all.
- I make TDs worth 1 point and only game winning FGs worth 1 point

Here's ISU football's "soccer" scores in Big 12 play:
8-2 loss
2-1 loss
2-2 loss (lost in pks, or could be a tie in league play)
4-2 win
3-1 loss
3-3 loss (lost in pks, or could be a tie in league play)
1-0 loss
2-1 loss
4-3 loss

Higher scoring than soccer just slightly, but not by a ton. None of those scores are unheard of soccer socres. Just the 0-0, 1-0, 1-1 is more common in soccer than 7-3 or 10-6 games are in football (those games do happen though).

You can do the same in reverse. Just multiple a goal by 7, add 6 fg points to winner and 3 fg points to loser.

Here's France's world cup american football scores:
34-10 win over Australia
20-10 win over Denmark
13-3 loss to Tunesia
27-10 win over Poland
20-10 win over England

Tell me those don't look like totally normal college football scores.

fallout continues

Multiple players on the USMNT have 'liked' Reyna's post, including three of his teammates in Qatar - Yunus Musah, Joe Scally and Tim Ream.

Now you have another talented star apparently not supporting Berhalter. Add 2 strikes who were not called up but had been scoring in Bundesliga and Eeredivisie respectively, Jordan Pefok and Pepi. And we know that we didn't have good strikers in the tournament.

I think fans won't have any issues with him suspending Gio, but after agreeing to keep things in house, he talked about it and said it was supposed to be "off-the-record", yeah - you were talking to a public event and expect people to keep quiet?

I’m not worried about the Gio thing. GB sent McKennie home in qualifying camp and they seemed ok after. Gio is young and will learn from it.

Berhalter is a clown. When the US gets a real
Manager will be when I become convinced they are serious about getting past the second round.

They need a true striker. The US for some reason can’t produce a top level striker and without that they have little chance of getting to the quarterfinals. Manager can only do so much, if they don’t have a guy who is dominant up top, it won’t matter.

It'll be interesting to see if Argentina comes out of the half attacking or just trying to protect the lead. You know Croatia is coming out like their hair is on fire.

Who is Croatia’s striker without looking?

They are usually set up correctly. The US should imitate them. Pestering, harassing, fiery, game plan to beat the team in front of you, not game plan to play the game you want to play. Berhalter is tactically inflexible.

They've got guys that can get there. Pepi is really the prototype if he can put a little more weight on his frame. It seems like we get promising prospects but they end up fizzling out trying to take the next step.

Lol we don’t have the talent pool to get to top 8.

We are probably just one true striker away from being a top 8 team. As we stand now we are competitive with the best in the world at all positions except for a true goal scorer. And I know you’re gonna say “but the Dutch beat us 3-1…” yeah, the did. And at least 2 of those goals came on counters because we couldn’t put the ball in the damn goal.

Our defense is also atrocious at times, don't forget about that.

I think that’s more effort than it is ability, though. Because what I saw in the World Cup is a team that can play defense when it wants to (I mean, we were the only team that didn’t give up a “regular” goal during group play). Which means the ability is there.

To me, that might be yet another thing solved by having the right coach. For instance, people have been saying the USMNT actually has strikers available, they just weren’t put on the World Cup roster. Well, ****.
