Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

You are right, with the exception of our 78-72 win in 2017 (weird game by 2 teams that really didn't end up being very good), these games have not been close. Even one of the years, maybe 2015, we got buried in the first half by 30 points from Jared Uthoff, trailed by dougle digits, got our d!cks kicked in like you said, but had enough firepower to come back and win that one. Thursday night was very similar, sans an Iowa player going for 30 in a half, but this Iowa State team is going to really struggle to come back from deficits like that. I mentioned it in an earlier post, but we did come back from a huge deficit against Baylor last year...somehow. That was at the end of the season though, where we had really gelled as a unit, and with Brockington, who I'm not convinced was replaced very well by the current cast.

Save these words for future reference.

You thinking for this season? As long as Murray comes back soon-ish, Iowa will be basically a shoe-in for the tournament. Iowa State has a pretty uphill battle, but we all know that.

I was talking losses though. When we lose we get killed.

We (in general) fall in the Iowa is good trap every single year.
I am not going to sit here and defend Iowa a ton, but what is your definition of good? They have made the NCAA Tournament the last 2/3 times they beat us, not including this year obviously in that equation. The one year they didn't was because there wasn't an NCAA Tournament, but they would have been a shoe in to make it that year as well.

Iowa has also taken full advantage of a really soft B1G slate. Kudos to them because they typically avoid the bad losses but over the last few years they haven't had many impressive wins either.

I agree that they often have a pretty bloated resume, but I don't think it entirely disqualifies them from being 'good'.

I think my favorite part about the Wisconsin game, aside from the Fran tirade, was the fact that in a critical part of the game last night, I think it was the under 16 to about the under 4, Fran was rolling with lineups featuring both Josh Dix and Carter Kingsbury. This is when Wisconsin flipped a 6 point deficit to an 8 point lead. I couldn't fathom that decision by Fran to have a walk on playing crucial minutes down the stretch of a conference game. Then I remembered that he always does goofy lineup $hit like this. It is extremely egregious in my opinion. If I was a hawk fan, I wouldn't support it.

He continues to put Sandfort on the floor and he can’t play dead.

I think the jury is officially out on Sandfort right now. Prior to the season, I thought he'd be a vital piece to Iowa's success this year. There is currently a pretty good chance he can't play at this level. If he doesn't pick it up at some point during the season, he'll probably look for a greener pasture. Therein lies the benefit of playing for Fran. He will continue to get opportunities, no matter how bad it gets.

Can we talk about Wisconsin absolutely pissing that game away in regulation? Up 8 with 45 seconds to go.

I feel like the bar was probably set too high for him too. The game is clearly way too fast for him right now and I don't know if it gets better, he's an experienced sophomore. IMO he should have went to Drake with his teammate.

Hawk fans and players would have you believe Fran's tirade and technical are what led to the inspired comeback. Nice try, but that occurred almost 3 full game minutes prior. Wisconsin just couldn't hit a free throw in the waning moments of regulation to seal it.

That's kind of where I'm at too. He seems like a guy who would do great in the MVC. You see players go on cold spells and shooting slumps, but we have a 10-game sample size now, and it's not like he's a freshman. It doesn't just start and end with shooting either. He makes a lot of mistakes when he's out there. I specifically remember him dribbling right into a double team on the baseline against us on Thursday and turning it over.
