Tough day for EIU hoops hopes

Kris Murray is so soft. He'll put up big numbers against garbage teams but any team that gets physical with him he's a below average player. He's going to struggle Thursday.

Not only that but if you shut him down. The rest of the team kind of don't have the talent to beat the big boys. Saying that, there is always the chance the worst team wins in basketball. It's what make the tournament the tournament. Anyone can beat anyone. I think we win though.

Duke was too much for Iowa on both ends last night. Duke is extremely talented and will be a tough out come March I think.

That's a pretty average Duke team by their standards. Eickholt and others surprisingly even admitted as much. The vegas line even closed at Duke -1. Filipowski is the only freshmen who pops for them so far but he might already be their best player.

I was somewhat surprised with that outcome last night. Kris Murray has only shown up in 1 of Iowa's 4 games against teams with a pulse. Iowa in general struggles with physical play and he epitomizes it.

Last night was the first time I've watched the Hawks this year. Murray, pretty much from the opening tip, looked like he would rather be anywhere else in the world. He played like it, too. I still feel like Iowa is going to give us all we can handle tomorrow night.

If it's in the 60s we definitely win.

What do you make of Sandfort's struggles?
Not sure, first couple of games he was great and he has been terrible ever since. He needs to hit shots if he is going to play meaningful minutes. Have never seen him struggle like this.

They recruited the #2, #3, #4, #20 and #27 ranked players and they are all true freshman. I'd say Duke is pretty loaded actually.

I've seen him make some great passes and he moves well without the ball, but I agree, if he isn't hitting shots he's not a net positive on the floor for you guys most nights. He seems a bit rushed out there too.

Fran was in prime Fran form last night at the end of the game, still full court pressing Duke while down nearly 20. Iowa actually got it back to within 8 with about 2 minutes left. Fran must think he's so clever. The freshman guard looked good once Duke stopped caring.

Yep he just looks as soft as he plays against good competition.

They snapped out of it once Duke stopped caring after the under 4. Fran was fueling his guys for a big comeback. Duke was ready to call it a night after soundly beating the Hawks, but Fran is always so cunning and knows when teams have packed it in for the night. How many blowouts have looked not so bad for Iowa over the years because he keeps his teams full court pressing even after the game is out of hand?

They might. If they are capable.

Fran pulled Tony Perkins for most of the 2nd half I noticed. Kris too, either wasn't playing or was invisible after the under 8. Perkins did come back in with a minute left though, for some reason. Rebracca (sp?) played a ton of minutes. All in all, it seemed like Fran figured out early on that his guys didn't have it last night and wanted to save legs for Thursday. Patrick only played 21 minutes. My guess is fatigue won't be a factor like we may have thought it would.

They're talented but not a great team by Duke standards. Barely escaped Oregon St in Portland, got waxed by Purdue. They'll likely get there in March like you said, but you're kidding yourself if you think that team is a title contender right now.

I agree the time to get them is now, but they are extremely talented.

Only 2 games left that are absolute cupcakes for Iowa. Kris better have a couple more 30 and 20 efforts in those if he wants to end the season around 20 ppg.

I agree on the talent - but will it translate to tourney wins? ISU had Shayok, THT, Haliburton & Wigginton on the same team one year (all who are playing or have played in actual NBA games) & yet got bounced by a VERY AVERAGE Ohio State team in the tourney. Can Scheyer actually coach their talent to be a cohesive and mentally tough unit? That remains to be seen.
