***Official 2022 World Cup Thread***

Love this game, but don’t follow it to know names. #6 for the US is casual in play and a liability most times. OOF. From my pov, weakest link on the field.

Musah I believe. He did not have a good game but hopefully he bounces back. I thought he might score coming into this game....oops.

There is a locker room "issue" is what I am hearing from someone very close to the squad. To be clear it is between Reyna and GB.
Geez. I mean, outside of Pulisic, Reyna is the closest we have to world class going forward. He's alot further along than Aaronson. He needs to play. This is going to be horrible for brining in young kids if they have other international options. I'm ready for Berhalter to go at this point.

He was dead tired at the end of the match. Just couldn't cover the ground anymore and could only foul to stop play.

If we are talking about the same person… his first half play was frustrating too. Lacked touch, didn’t anticipate, looked behind. Anyway, we moved on… i should too… lol

The Dutch are a lot like us in some ways. Missed 2018 WC and are probably four years from top form.

Is this just a playing time issue? Something more?
It has to do with first game. Evidently, GB wanted to G to say that he was still injured. G did exactly the opposite on Twitter and said something to the effect of "100% ready to play". Which seems like if GB is being a ***** about that he can promptly **** himself. The team is bigger than GB's ego.

I don’t compliment refs often, but props to the guy who reffed our game. Nothing to complain about all game, and he wasn’t having any of Iran’s cheap attempts to tie the game at the end. Really appreciate when the ref doesn’t make the game about himself.

Agreed, that was a well reffed game. Especially in the last 20 mins when Iran is desperately trying to draw a penalty.

I was saying and reiterate that we are at a disadvantage tactically due to Greg Berhalter.
I'd agree that his tactics have been poor, but he's done well to mesh the starting lineup together well. Strategically speaking, this is the first WC where we were on the front foot for the majority of minutes and he deserves some credit for making that happen. Hopefully the straight dysfunctional subbing we're doing gets fixed, but I have my doubts.

If subs was the only lackluster thing I would be thrilled and we wouldn't have had the fiasco of having to play to win today.

I don’t get the GB hate. We are the second youngest team and headed to group stage. Would you rather be Canada (and probably Mexico) and headed home?

The idea that GB isn’t playing Reyna due to spite is ******* stupid.

Agreed. In general, the ref called a good game. He might have been a little slow on a yellow card or two, two of which would have benefited the US, but he was consistent. That consistency is important in refereeing as we Cyclones all know. I was waiting for the proverbial Cyclone kick to the nuts at the end of the game when that Iranian player went down in the box looking to draw a penalty on Carter-Vickers. That would have been brutal - losing without giving up a legit goal from the run of play but rather a faux penalty, but the ref was having none of the flopping.

Still...... I was holding my breath and waiting for the nutshot.

I just watched the end. Anyone think the Iran player blew a great scoring attempt by trying to draw the penalty? It looked like it was right there for him if he didn’t flop. And it still almost went in.
