Big 12/SEC Challenge ending after this season

I have to think a Big 12/Big Ten challenge on FOX is in the works since FOX will now own some Big 12 basketball inventory with the new contract. There would be some fun non-Iowa Big Ten matchups for ISU (Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, Illinois).

Yeah the breakup is happening because the Big10-ACC challenge is ending due to ESPN losing all Big10 coverage. ESPN already announced it's doing an SEC-ACC challenge instead since it owns all that coverage.

It could either be a Big10-Big12 challenge, or have the PAC-12 in the mix if the PAC-12 still exists.

Big 12/Big Ten and Big 12/Big East is the perfect set to me.

Assuming the former materializes and the latter continues, this is an upgrade!

I wonder if FOX does do a Big12/Big10 challenge, if they just have Iowa State vs Iowa count as the challenge every year....

I would hope not. I want the CyHawk to keep going *and* for an okay matchup against an SEC team be replaced with a more interesting one against a Big Ten team. I would rather see programs like Michigan, Maryland, Wisconsin, and, heck, UCLA (and bring Walton with you to Ames so he can finally see it!) over further games against distant southeastern schools like Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, and Mississippi State.

I hope the Big10/Big 12 thing happens, but I can see those Big 10 pricks saying they'd rather not have a conference challenge than partner with the Big 12.

They will do what’s best for business. Same as everyone else. People need to stop thinking that competitive considerations mean anything in CFB & CBB for the schools and the business partners. Not in scheduling, not in challenges, not in realignment, not in anything.

It's not personal, Sonny. It's strictly business.

Great news. I'd much rather play most big 10 teams than go play against Auburn or Mississippi State. Of course, when we draw Rutgers in 2024 I'll be the first to complain

It's part of a shift that involves end of ACC/Big Ten Challenge and start of ACC/SEC Challenge.

Side note: I hate when headline with "kick off/kickoff" is used in non-football context.

A Big 12-B1G Challenge would be infinitely more fun. Give us a weekend game at Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, or Northwestern, and Cyclone fans will be there.

Honestly I'd rather just play more conference games with the new teams coming in. Those games are going to feel very non-conference for a little bit anyway.

Now we can enjoy Northwestern-UCF as much as we enjoy Northwestern-Boston College!!!

j/k. This would be great and a lot more fun and competitive for Midwesterners. Get it done FOX.
