Probably more NFL players in that year than any I remember.Didn’t every team have loaded teams last year due to Covid years? Still a disappointing season, but a lot of players were back almost everywhere.

It is sort of like pointing out the 2-22 record basketball season. People consider that rewriting history to support a negative narrative even though it was objectively the worst season in program history (sorry Ken Trickey).I would argue that last year was a bigger let down. That team was loaded.
I don't understand your point. I'm not saying we reload like them, I'm saying we had the players to win. It's been clear to me for a while when Matt kept slamming his face into the same loses and mistakes for the last 3 or 4 years. That’s just not how it works unless you’re an Alabama, USC, ND etc and your entire starting team is NFL players.
That was '02, but all in the same year. Was he talking about '01? The 'he was in' year, the year of 'the run' and finally the year of losing to barely FBS UCONN to finish the season? Bowl game loss to Boise State on the blue turf year, 7-6 I believe.
Great contribution to the conversation.
7-6Please define "mediocre by national standards".
This isn't hard folks. Campbell's success at ISU this point is Ferentz (Iowa) minus the 10 win season high points.
The justifications for season performances evolved as follows:I don't understand your point. I'm not saying we reload like them, I'm saying we had the players to win. It's been clear to me for a while when Matt kept slamming his face into the same loses and mistakes for the last 3 or 4 years.
Offense had issues at times last year aside from Breece busting a big run BUT don't forget the defense lost the WVU and Tech games. Can't even try to blame those on the offense last year. The defense in those two games was so shockingly bad I thought we were playing only reserves on that side.I agree with your general premise, but this is two “bad” seasons in a row now. The first of which was with probably our most talented team ever. And both because of the same strategy/execution shortcomings. That’s what is frustrating/scary for the fan base.
He enjoyed marginal success at North Texas before they moved on from him too. I think he could've got Iowa State back to 6-6, maybe 7-5, as a peak. I think we would have been guaranteed a cycle of 3-9, 5-7,6-6, 7-5 every 4 years.Don’t want to rehash the Dan ending, Bruns mentioned he thought Dan would have fixed things. That’s his guy though so.
That was an interesting comment there by Ben. I still remember listening to the last game before DMac was fired and Ben admitting at the end or after that game that it was over for DMac. Maybe he knew something was up the next day or not. IMO. the move to fire him had to be made at that time.Don’t want to rehash the Dan ending, Bruns mentioned he thought Dan would have fixed things. That’s his guy though so.

Next man in. Recruiting and development failures. Miyan is here it's another story of course but you don't get mulligans. That's a miss.We had the players and coaches to win 7. That’s what happened. This isn’t like some hypothetical situation lol. Living in this vacuum without giving any credence to the teams we played or who was hurt or any number of variables is lame.
You know what’s weird? I haven’t seen the name Jirehl Brock all week. That’s a variable that absolutely no one is taking in to account this week or every week since Iowa. You want to talk about players? It’s often more important to talk about who’s NOT playing, than who IS playing.
Saying “we had the talent to win X amount of games is ******* lazy and absolutely not how sports works and the only way to prove it is by how many games any given team won.
Next man in? At Iowa State? When the hell has that EVER been the case? I will say our OL development is shockingly poor but to just expect Iowa State to have loaded two deeps is ludicrous.Next man in. Recruiting and development failures. Miyan is here it's another story of course but you don't get mulligans. That's a miss.
I love Campbell but he better make changes if he doesn't gonna get ugly.
I do not agree that was a 7 win talent team. Should have won the conference. Matt's in game decisions have been atrocious. 5-18 or whatever the stat is against even competition is clear proof of that.
Hasn't Kirk Ferentz had a few ****** seasons over the years? He seems to have rebounded ok....albeit with a bit different circumstances. Also, nobody with Campbell's record has rebounded from a 3 or 4 win season and built a winner.
As stated Matt knows more football than people on this board. We can rehash this season and last for the next month and it's not going to change our record.
What I want to know is what is Campbell doing to make sure that the next year is not a repeat of the past two?
Any good leader knows the strengths and weaknesses of their team or company, the best leaders then go about fixing the weak parts while continuing to improve the strengths.
This morning on the Big 12 channel they were doing their weekly one-minute take of each game, one of them stated "that special teams again let ISU down, and it's not a new problem, but has been going for the past couple of years"
So are we going to see some changes in this critical part of the game, or continue to do status quo and nothing changes? I could say the same about the offense, its not working this year, and would not have worked last year without Hall in the backfield.
Changes need to be made, if not, next year will be our last as season ticket holders.
