Does anyone here use an iPhone with Google Fi as the carrier? My son really wants an iPhone (I have a Pixel 7 and just can't talk him into going with the same phone that Dad has...ugh)! I would like to use Google Fi and it does say Google Fi and iPhone 13 is compatible but Google Fi website says that service is in "beta". Anyone have this type of setup? Are their any drawbacks to using an iPhone with Google Fi? TIA

I don't believe Iphones can switch networks so that means the coverage will basically be TMobile 100% of the time. Also can't make calls or send text over wi-fi.

Is LTE that much slower? I mean...would a kid notice it? How limiting is it?

Meh I doubt it, 5G is still fairly limited and localized anyway. Just driving across CR I notice mine flip between 5G and LTE numerous times on Verizon. That being said IMO GoogleFi is worthless on an iPhone right now and is the main reason I haven't switched to it.

I appreciate that insight. I love Fi on my PIxel and I want to keep it. I do want my son to get a phone he wants (iPhone) and what attracts me to Fi is the price. Unlimited for both of us for $80. If I buy the iPhone outright...any good deals out there? Fi is so easy to deal with I am spoiled! I hate dealing with big carriers...

Question: when you say worthless...can you tell me what you think my kid would be missing? I mean...I like the price and I like the convenience of adding him to my account. In your estimation is there something my kid would think "this sucks because I can't do..."?

5G is not at all limited on the TMobile network, which is what you would be on most of the time via Google Fi. They advertise over 90% of the population covered and my personal experience would seem to support that. My phone is on 5G nearly all of the time.

I am now at the stage where I am thinking of iPhone 13 and Mint Mobile. I wouldn't hesitate to go with Google Fi except for his choice of iPhone. Don't know of anyone who uses Mint Mobile but the prices are great and you aren't locked into a long-term contract. I really wanted to get him on my Fi account and still might. Anyone ever use Mint Mobile (they use T-Mobile towers).

I've never used it but it would be the service I would choose if I ever left Google Fi.

Sounds like Google Fi offers 5G service to iPhones now...
