There was talk of this being a possibility after this last season but kind of wanted one more. Mainly because I could watch Thandie Newton for hours. Kinda bummed but not shocked.

The first season was fantastic. Beyond that, I feel like it lost the thread, and wasn't as good.

Not surprised. First season was awesome. After that, it seems like they just wanted to confuse us constantly. Develop a plot and stick to it.

I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one confused. I really liked season one then got progressively more confused as the seasons went on. The last one was so forgettable that I don't even remember how it ended.

I will miss Evan Rachel Wood, however...

Season two was bad. But they lost so many viewers then. Season four was just right up there with season one for us. I just saw the full cast is still getting paid for season five. So it was truly a quick decision it looks like.

Sad to hear this, as this show was my jam. I haven't seen Season 4 yet, probably have to rewatch 3 as I don' really remember any of it. Season 1 was just so ******* great.

Does Season 4 at least wrap it up at all if there isn't a final season?

Not even sort of.

Cliff notes: Dolores spends the whole season essentially as her own subconscious, basically creating Westworld in her head without realizing it. Maeve and Caleb are working toward bringing Dolores back, which they do in the finale (though it wasn't clear that's what they were doing until the end). It was confusing, but I did want to see where they took things next season.

So why they shitcanning it with no closure
I am guessing that viewership has a lot to do with it. Season 1 was a massive hit. But 2 was a mess and they lost a LOT of their base. Three was worse and I am sure despite 4 being great in my opinion, it just wasn't a show many watched. and the production cost had to be pretty high let alone the salaries of the big names.

I really tried, I loved the first season, the 2nd was impossible to figure out. Then it just got worse. Made it 3 episodes into 3 and finally gave up.

The 100 million or so it takes to get it done, paying off the actors was cheap (so to speak).
The new leadership at Warner Bros. has been cutting things all over the place. They cut Batgirl to save on taxes and that movie was finished.
