Winona State:

They are a Div II team in the NSIC (Northern Sun), in which they are projected to be a middle-of-the-road team. Their coach retired after last season, but their associate head coach was promoted into the position, so there's continuity there.

They had three players average over 10.0 ppg last season, but all three graduated.

They do return their top three-point shooter, Caitlin Riley (out of CR Washington), who made around 2 per game on 33% 3p shooting. Around 37% of their shot attempts last year were threes, which was lower than ISU (43%) but higher than ISU's average opponent (32%). They only shot around 29% on threes, though.

As you might expect, they are short. They have two 6'1" centers, Ava Sergio (who was fairly effective in seven games last year before a season-ending injury) and Stephanie Dasbach (who did not play last season as a freshman and has nothing in her bio to explain why). They have three forwards -- one 6'0" and two 5'11" -- and the rest are guards ranging from 5'7" to 5'10".

NOTE: There is NO live audio/video of this game. Really sucks for us out-of-staters.

Soares and Fritz are listed as possible starters along with the main trio.

Yeah! It's an *Official Game Post! Just exhibition game so we can have a looser feel for this before big business ahead.

Yeah! It's the opening *Official Game Post for the 2022-'23 season.

Exhibition game so, we can have a looser, funner, feel for this "game" before the big business ahead.

Picturesque Winona, is the "Big City" overlooking the Mississippi just down The Great River Road (HWY 61) from Wabasha MN home of "Grumpy Old Men" and home to Winona State.

From the video nothing special to note except, Soares' goals include the WNBA and wants Bill to work her into situations to develop and showcase her pro-skills.

And on a lighter note:

Maybe I am the only one but does Christie McVie (Fleetwood Mac) and our Coach Steyer have a simliar appearance?

An * Official Game Post is hosted by mred.

I edited the thread title to include the obligatory asterisks. I apologize for leaving those out earlier.

These games are pretty uninteresting to me unless you are starting a bunch of freshman that have never stepped onto their own Div 1 floor for a game, and we aren't. Am looking forward to our first real games, even if against cupcakes since it will be interesting to see Soares and also any other hints as to how Joens might be used this season. Not dismissing UNI, the top of the Valley and Summit are good mid-majors.

And, only three weeks away from some good neutral court games in Portland. These aren't crap tournament games in a hotel gym in Cancun with subscriptions to some obscure service required to view, going to be on the ESPN network channels. Opener is versus Michigan State, average record last year but played the teams above them in the Big Ten pretty tight. We get either ranked Oregon or ranked North Carolina in the second game. :)
