Big 12 New TV Deal - Huge Positives

I don't see them adjusting the auto-bid related to conference size. They know they'll get a majority of the at large spots already. They'll just be motivated to reduce the number of auto-bids to allow more at-large for them to gobble up. In the initial proposal, there was to be auto-bids for the top 6 conferences (P5 + top G5 in essence). If the PAC dies, I'd imagine that'll reduce the auto-bids by one even though it was worded as the top 6 conferences and not tied to specific conferences. Will be interesting just how much power the non-P2 conferences have in this process to reign in the P2 domination of the CFP selection. In theory, they have more voting power. But they'll need to work together to keep thing equitable.
My guess is the selection criteria specifying top 6 conference champs get an automatic bid would have a qualifier that auto bid teams be ranked in top 12 or 15.

This year Tulane is the top ranked G5 school at #19 and Liberty is at #23. If there was a 12 team playoff, doubt P5 conferences would feel those teams are deserving even at this point. Liberty has Arkansas this week and Tulane plays UCF, Cincy and SMU. We could have a year where no G5 school is ranked in top 20 after CCG weekend.

What happens first, The next new deal for the big 12? or Texa$ and ?others? fleeing the SEC because they feel underappreciated. The impending SEC fallout will be the biggest shakeup to date.

I'd imagine it'll be the same as the NY6 bowls. Today, the top ranked G5 team gets a spot regardless of their ranking. As all this expansion is doing is moving these NY6 bowls into the playoffs, it'd be a bad PR move to make it more difficult for the lower teams to qualify.

Agree, though I could see that team getting throttled by Alabama or Georgia year after year, and then using that as an excuse to rework it.

Where the hell would Texas go? There is zero chance they leave even after they rawdogged weekly. $$$

But the #12 team will be playing the #5 team in the first round. So I don't see it as big of a imbalance than a #12 vs #1
The 1 and 2 will often be miles ahead of 3 - 12. The games not involving the 1 and 2 will be the most entertaining in most scenarios.

Thats CFB since time immemorial. Every year there is always between 1-3 truly elite teams on a level above the next tier. The expanded CFP is just about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Exactly. The first round is exactly as we have today with the NY6 non-CFP bowls. Those have traditionally been really good. The second round is really what's new. Third and fourth rounds are the same as the playoffs today.

Its #12 from a playoff seeding, but that G5 school could be ranked #23. That would tend to lead to blowouts.

The bigger issue is money. Today each P5 conference gets about $80M and combined the G5 conferences get slightly more than $80M. When we move to a 12 team playoff, that likely jumps to over $300M. Are P5 conferences going to split $300M with the 65ish G5 schools? Heck each G5 school will make about as much TV money from the CFB Playoff as the entirety of their AAC, MWC, Sunbelt Conference media rights deals!

**** like this is really why I'm cool if the PAC does.

If there truly isn't much of a gap I don't see where the poster is wrong. The shot at academics was unnecessary, but let's be honest the Big12 hasn't ever worried about a schools academic standing since it is an athletic conference only.

If the PAC can deliver an equitable TV contract and get their members to sign a GOR, there is no reason for schools to leave for the Big12. But that's a big if. The West Coast media seems to think that's possible. But the thing is that a TV contract is a tangible, quantifiable result. So once the PAC gets bids back, there won't be any gray area. It'll be financially sound to stay or it won't be.

Watching the non-conference games the past few years, the G5 isn't that far behind anymore. The offenses in the Sun Belt at least give them a punchers chance. Maybe not lead to a lot of wins, but I don't see huge blowouts either. Again, look at the NY6 bowls as a reference.

We still haven't seen the details of a 12 team playoff, especially the financial aspects.

The current deal distributes equal amounts to each P5 conference. So a 14-team Big10 or SEC was getting $80M per year and so was a 10-team Big12. When that number grows to over $300M if equal, do you still think 16-team Big10 or SEC are going to take significantly less per school than a 10 team Pac12? No way!! I bet each P5 conference will receive same amount on a per school basis.

It also wouldn't surprise me if Big10 & SEC don't push for a hybrid model where $x dollars of the CFB playoff are fixed (like today) and then there is a sizeable amount goes to each conference based on # of their schools selected to be in CFB Playoff.

Sankey and Warren are being intentionally quiet about financial and selection parameters because they want fans to view the 12 team format as a done deal.
I'm sure they want that, but do they really have the power here? 3/5 of the P5 conferences would vote against that.

Yeah, this true of every conference. Even the Big 10 and their resource sharing is small potatoes. Pac-12 homers just like to parrot this because it’s their only perceived advantage.
