Jeremiah Williams out for the year

I think I've asked this before but can anybody compare Lipsey to Morris at same age? Asking people who have seen him play a whole game. Similar build, length, strength or different? I've heard him described as a floor general but can he really take care of ball and run offense like Monte? That skill set made up for Monte being undersized early. It seems neither were the elite shooter type of point guard. It seems like his defense has been talked about more than Monte's was coming in even though MM ended up one of our better defenders in a defensively lacking era.

It was great having Kane to bring MM along slowly, but he was a B12 starter level player pretty much right away. Maybe not all conference immediately, but definitely starter level pg right away. Just trying to rationalize that one or both of these freshmen could be that.

Losing Williams is a hit, but I always felt we didn't have a ball dominant PG on this years roster, other than Lipsey. And I thought Lipsey was only going to play 10mpg as a frosh.

Maybe Lipsey is ready to play starter minutes, but I'm not really counting on that. Early in season I would expect Holmes, Kalscheur & Grill start. With Lipsey and King off the bench.

Upfront we rotate Osun, Kunc, Ward and Jones. It will be interesting how Watson fits. We list him at guard, so does staff see him as a wing vs. small post.

Once King is eligible, maybe we go bigger with a Holmes, Kalscheur, Tre King, Kunc & Osun as starting 5.

The positive on this injury was it happened in early October and the staff can implement an offense that doesn't require a prototypical PG to be efficient.

I was really impressed with him in their game against UNI last year. 15 pts, 6 asts, 5 boards while playing all 40. He was really smooth and in control the whole time. Bonnies just fell victim to AJ going apeshit that day.

You can do far, far worse at the postion.

He was pretty good against OU in the NIT too.

I think Lipsey will play a ton at PG with Holmes handling a bulk of it too. I'd guess Tamin holds his own on offense compared to Williams, but he is certainly a downgrade on the defensive side right now.

I am sure Lipsey will make mistakes this upcoming season, but it will be pretty great experience for a freshman. He could be the guy for us at PG for the next few years.

Tre king still not eligible? Really? What’s the reason? I thought it’s been over a year since transfer?

I can't honestly say that I've seen him play for a significant amount of time, but I'm quite sure that Lipsey is physically huge compared to Monte at the same age. Lipsey is listed at 200 lbs, and I'm pretty sure that Monte was listed at 170 (just checked, it was 175) and that was with lead in his pockets.

He didn't enroll at Iowa State until second semester last year, since he started the fall at Georgetown. So the spring was his first semester sitting out, this fall is his second semester sitting out. It's been a year and a half since he's played, though.

I'd be real interested to know how many D1 players have to sit out 1st semester or both semesters next year. There can't be many with the 1-time transfer rule and grad-transfer rules.

Tamin's a good enough athlete to pick things up early defensively. He's also very mature physically for his age which will help. As for the offensive end, I would keep expectations reasonable. He can be a good facilitator but I don't expect him to be much of a scorer. It would of been more ideal to have him in a backup role year 1.

23 points (8-12 FG, 4-4 3PT), 4 rebs, 3 asts

Played 194 of 200 possible minutes during their NIT run
I am too lazy to look up advanced defensive stats, but as I recall OU was absolute dog shite defensively last year. A big reason they fell apart down the stretch and didn't get an NCAA bid. Not trying to take away from Holmes' effort because that is still really damn impressive.

It’s definitely kind of a gray area. I thought since Grill was able to transfer and get another waiver he’d be good as he was barely even at Georgetown. I don’t think he ever even practiced or anything.

They finished 36th in adjusted defensive efficiency. They were fairly balanced but their defense actually graded out better than their offense.

Oddly, their two worst defensive performances of the year came against ISU. The game in Hilton was by far their worst defensive game on the season.

Ah, that is why I must've thought they were poor defensively then. Didn't watch a lot of them outside of the two games v.s. us. At the time I remember thinking they were really swiss cheesey to make our offense look as fluid as it did.

I'm assuming he has to sit out because he dropped out of school the first semester at Georgetown. It has to have something to do with that. I don't understand why the reason he didn't get a waiver hasn't been researched and reported by Chris, Jared, Hines, or Randy. Or maybe they've tried and TJ and Tre don't want the reason released or something. Very strange how it's been kept a secret though.

Likely because of the way he left Georgetown.
