MLB: What if Felix Pie got traded?

Yay, a couple of pitchers I've never heard of.

Doesn't matter much though, as it was obvious Pie just wasn't going to be able to cut it in the majors at this point.

He's just 23, correct? With sporadic playing time?

Actually Olsen was the pitcher that was rumored to go to San Diego as part of the 3 way deal for Peavy. So this trade could get those talks revived as soon as the team as been bought.

Hmm. Didn't realize that. I thought we'd hear more about those Peavy trade talks again after DeRosa was traded but its been pretty quiet.

Now that Harden has gone Mark Prior on us, getting Peavy would be even better as he is very durable.

I think harden's arm troubles (although nothing new to people who follow him) have made hendry decide to really go after Peavy. If they get peavy then Harden having to hang on the DL for a while doesnt hurt that bad

Right. We'd still have four real solid starters, with Zambrano, Peavy, Lilly, and Dempster. As long as Rich Hill or somebody could fill in the fifth spot for a while, we'd be well set.

If Harden turned out to be OK, and somehow durable, then we're back to the incredible rotation we all talked about when this trade was first mentioned as a possibility.

Rich Hill is done. He can't even get the ball past minor league hitters anymore. The 5th spot would likely be held by Sean Marshall.

Weird move for Baltimore. I know they didn't give up much, but Pie isn't going to beat out Adam Jones, and I don't think Pie will be able to provide enough offense to let him start at a corner OF spot. I guess he could be a lefty speedster off the bench.

the 5th starter would be Guzman or Samardzija should Marshall be traded and Harden was injured.... either that or bring in a veteran like Randy Wolf

I had high hopes for Pie, too bad he never emerged while wearing a Cub's uni.

Actualy he played like a Pie hole. The Cubs really need to win this year, just like the Cyclones.

Pie won't be the next Lou Brock or Joe Carter, but he does have a chance to be a pretty good player.

The signing of Gaithright pretty much sealed Pie's fate. He was out of options, so the Cubs either had to trade him, or DFA him if he didn't make the team out of spring training. Whether or not this leads to the Cubs taking another shot at landing Peavy remains to be seen.
