He's the highest paid backup in the league! Is he really any good?
Yep, heck there was even some talk he might end up on the Rams to provide insurance if Stafford's bad elbow doesn't hold up.9ers probably figured Jimmy would end up in Seattle immediately if they cut him.
Like taking your ex girlfriend to the work Christmas party. Better than being by yourself and you may still get a little if the stars align. What a weird set of business for Jimmy. Basically get removed from the team, don't practice/camp, just hang out for a few months... only to have the team that pushed you to the side come back and resign you after.
She may also make a complete ass of you and you have to deal with that for several weeks, if not longer, after at work.
In this case, you're paying her to go to it under the condition that she behaves. She may also make a complete ass of you and you have to deal with that for several weeks, if not longer, after at work.
There's a pretty good chance he ends up playing this year in a system he knows, with a loaded roster. At worst he doesn't play or doesn't play well and he's right back where he is now at this time next year. If he plays well he'll get a good deal. Plus he's at a salary where if a contender loses their QB they might be interested in trading for him.I know. I’m saying it’s weird for Jimmy to restructure his deal to be a backup when he could have just let the 49ers cut him and then he could have signed somewhere to be a likely starter.

I think going to Seattle, for example would be the end of him. Terrible situation. Their offense was Russell Wilson away from being historically terrible. Jimmy G has had great situations in terms of surrounding talent and offensive coaches his whole career. There's zero chance he'd succeed in Seattle.
Jimmy G is really hard to evaluate because he's only been pretty much ideal situations for a QB. I would think he's better suited to win now than Lance, but I'd trust Shanahan on that. I just don't think Jimmy G is very good, and if he swapped situations with most QBs he'd fail. I'd be shocked if he went somewhere and proved the 9ers wrong. It's hard to imagine a better situation for a QB, particularly one that isn't mobile or the type of guy that can carry a team. This makes sense.
As a 49ers fan, I actually have liked Jimmy more than Lance, so I guess I just want to see him go somewhere and be successful to prove the 49ers wrong (similar to Alex Smith). I also think Jimmy is actually the type of quarterback Shannahan wants, which is also why he seems so high on Brock, because Purdy is more or less a more mobile Jimmy G.
Do all pro teams have only 2 QB's active on game day? Or do some have 3? Either way, didnt' Brock sign a pretty decent contract w/the SF? Especially for a 7th rounder? I was assuming he stays, and comes up on any given Sunday if they have a QB injury. Am I wrong? How about 2 practice squad QBs? (Sudfeld and Brock)

oh, ok. I wasn't aware of the non guaranteed scenario of draftees.Pretty much his entire contract is not guaranteed. He got a 90k signing bonus and I believe the rest is dependent if he is on the roster.
The contracts are slotted by draft pick with the rookie pay scale. Contracts aren’t fully guaranteed either.Do all pro teams have only 2 QB's active on game day? Or do some have 3? Yep. Of Purdy's contract, only $77,000 was guaranteed. His contract won't be a factor in their decision to keep/cut him.The contracts are slotted by draft pick with the rookie pay scale. Contracts aren’t fully guaranteed either.
With Jimmy G staying, the most likely scenario will be the 49ers cut/waive Brock and look to bring him back on the practice squad once/if he clears waivers.I didn't read everything but With Jimmy staying is there a #3? BP getting cut?
They haven't said yet. We'll know yet today as rosters have to be down to 53.I didn't read everything but With Jimmy staying is there a #3? BP getting cut?
