With the annual Iowa State Fair approaching, what are your thoughts on it?

Personally, I dislike it and don't attend. Every 4-5 years I think we "should" go and then get disappointed that it's the same exact crap. When I was in 4H, it wasn't as bad, but I've seen animals before and the Varied Industries building is just a giant TV commercial.

What are your views?

Would like to go again someday. Been a long time since I've been. Probably 15 years?

It's not ideal to think of driving up for the day (2 1/2 hours), spending the day mostly on my feet in 90+ degrees, then driving in an exhausted state 2 1/2 hours home.

I quit going once they quit having us race there. But I will go if they have a good concert - Slipknot a few years ago and Disturbed this year (really thought about go to Alanis too, but decided to pass). But that's it, I go to the concert then get out of there.

I can take it or leave it. But when I do go, I only do a few things (can finish in about 3 hour).

-pork tent for meal
-dairy barn for milk shake
-4–H building
-varied industries for a quick walk through
-quick walk through animal barn
-maybe butter cow

I go every 3-4 years. It's really nothing special but fun to see the butter cow or a fat ass pig every once in a while.

We usually go, but I don't love it. If there is an interesting free stage music we will go. This year its Wang Chung that is going to get us in for a day.

Where's the "meh" choice? Went with "Like but don't attend". I have some fun when my wife drags me there every few years. I don't go on my own because it's typically not worth the headache... bellyache, going into a food coma on ridiculous foods is a tradition when I attend. My personal favorite is pork chop on a stick.

Minnesota State Fair is far superior imo.

I regret not going to Slipknot.

its ok

we go one time usually each year.

this year will be the first with a child- 8 month old. he seems to like animals so we'll walk through all the buildings so he can see those. we walked through them before a child too because my wife also likes animals.

im an animal in bed so it works out.

I enjoyed going to the fair each year, if nothing else, to see the people. Would go all places except the midway. Enjoyed music (most often on the free stages), the farm animals, and varied industries building. Did a lot of walking. I'm not in Iowa anymore so haven't been there for a while just because it's not practical.
