September 10 promises Big XII non conference mayhem with Texas hosting Alabama, Kansas State hosting Missouri, Baylor travelling to BYU, and CMC looking to end his curse at EIU. Other can't-miss games include West Virginia travelling to Top 10, long time rival Pitt on opening weekend, Oklahoma travelling to Nebraska on Sep 17 for the first time in many years, and Texas Tech travelling to N.C. State that same weekend.

Hot takes:
  • What non-conference games do you most look forward to?
  • And what matchups do you dread the most?

NOTES:
  1. The poll includes each team's highest ranked opponent. From the look of things, it may be difficult for us to break even.
  2. Some additional non-cons that will be great matchups include TCU @ Colorado on opening weekend, TTU @ Houston on Sep 10, WVU @ Va Tech on Sep 22, and KU vs Duke on Sep 24. I would love to have been able to include these in the poll, but ...
  3. The polling tool for this site limits us to only 10 choices. With 10 teams in the league, that works nicely. But as soon as next year we will not be able to have a poll like this unless the restriction is lifted. Please visit the Site Feedback and Support forum and chime in on / like my suggestion to loosen this restriction: Idea: Increase Poll Choice Limit to Match Big XII Conference Size

I was mostly chalk, but didn't pick Baylor (since at BYU) and KSU (since Martinez and I know absolutely NOTHING about Mizzou).

I do think WV will beat Pitt. Pitt has new QB and WV had a fairly solid defensive core returning. I'm glad we have them at home this year. They will be salty at home, but trash on the road is my guess.

I hope the Baylor -BYU game is in a different time slot than the Cy-Hawk game.

Funny that KU has one more vote than UT.
Coach Leipold is the real deal. KU is going to be pesky. I think they can beat anybody that shows up thinkin g they have a week off. They aren't likely to win at Houston, but they will be favored at home the next week versus Duke,

I selected only 3 -- OSU, OU and KSU. I'm coin-flip on KSU. Also was 50-50 on BU, WVU and probably TT, but chose the home team in each case.

So I'd say minimum 2, maximum 6.
Seems reasonable. KSU vs Mizzou might be the best matchup, but I agree the Wildcats are primed to take care of business early in the season. Pitt and NC State are particularly difficult draws this year. Even OU at Nebraska is no slam dunk, as "obvious" a pick as that might seem at first glance. Unless ISU pulls one out of the hat in Iowa City, a sub-500 non-con is pretty likely.

That Baylor/BYU is a nice little preview of what big 12 games might look like at that 8CST time slot.
I completely agree. This is set up nicely as a preview of the Big 12's future. It will also be a great nite cap of a huge day of non-con football. We're going to learn where the Big 12 stands by the end of that day for sure.

These kick times are as spread out as anyone could hope for. OU and TCU are sideshows, but everything else is watchable.
I see that CyHawk is on BTN this year. Trivia question: What is ISU football's record on BTN? I do not happen to know that, and cringe to even ask. I recall the last win was 2014, but don't know what network it was on.

I think the Knott interception game was on there but I’m not super sure.

I don't care if they're traitors, hopefully OU curb stomps Nebraska
Kinda like Nebby against whatever the spread might be. This will of course be in Lincoln. It will also be Nebraska's 4th game, since they open Aug 27 against Northwestern (speaking of BTN ...), vs OU's 3rd outing. Their early season includes fast rising North Dakota (similar to UNI), a Georgia Southern of the talent rich Sun Belt Conference (with our all time favorite, the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns). Nebraska could come into to the OU game with 1 or 2 losses, along with some major lessons learned.
Scott Frost enters his 5th year (7th overall), while Brent Venables has never before served as a HC.
A layer deeper ... Nebraska is #4 on Phil Steele's most improved teams for 2022. Note, too, they suffered an extraordinary *7* Net Close Losses last season. Win 3 of those, and they would gave gone bowling instead of 3-9.
