The “We Will” Collective

Oh, is that all it takes? I guess I'll just have to sell my kids' tickets so I can help pay the full ride athletes to want to come here? No, wait, then I'd have to pay even more for a babysitter on gamedays, guess that won't work for me.

You're right, I don't spend ALL of my extra income on season tickets, but ISU also isn't the ONLY thing we do in our free time. Believe it or not, some people like to spend some of their disposable income on other things, too. Not to mention trying to position ourselves so our kids don't graduate with hundreds of thousands in debt, and retiring before we're 80 & in a wheelchair.

So while you think us 'tapped out' people are annoying, I think you 'just give more' people are also annoying. Guess we cancel out.

I'm not the one that said everyone can have plenty to donate simply by selling a set of their season tickets... Reality is everyone's situation is different, and not everyone CAN or will prioritize donating to a collective. ESPECIALLY for those of us who already do donate hundreds/thousands to the university and athletics department.

I don't disagree that it's disappointing to be last in the Big 12 in the stats you mentioned, but I do disagree that complaining about it to current donors/ticket holders is the way to fix it.
I said sell one game. Do you like ISU winning? This is what it is going to take. If TTU can give guys money we should be able to as well.

There has been zero transparency with the We Will Collective and the general public. They haven’t even communicated how much money they have raised/how many have donated, how many student athletes have been paid, how they are going to identify “who” gets paid, who is paying the salary for the new director and how much he is making…. So many questions that are day one Q&A’s that should have been answered. I’m not buying in right now.

Yes, the "I'm tapped out" people are annoying. They buy season tickets and parking passes I cant imagine that they are spending all of their extra income to do that. Sell 1 set of tickets each year and donate that money to the collective. Problem solved.
I don't think we should criticize people's personal finances. Many people can't afford to give, and if they can, many prefer to give to charities, not athletic departments.

Charities that pay their CEOs millions. Why not help a college kid who needs it?

They just made their first full time hire, so I would say things are still being worked out. And my guess is we havent heard anything because they dont have that much money.

You should be able to give more.

7500. I had to up my donation by $2500 to keep my lower level basketball seats.

IMO the university and We Will are not working together.
They cant work together. I am trying to give more but unfortunately my wife has 4 degrees from the university and I have to pay those back first.

I think he might be suggesting that instead of raising donation level requirements by $2,500, they could keep them the same & suggest fans contribute to the collective with those 'savings'?

I’m sure the University is totally on board with that lol.

I think they are trying to get out of the covid hole still, and prepare for lower TV rights money.

Thought I could answer a few of these if it would help people get on board. I am not getting paid by any funds from the Collective, I will make a living if companies collaborate with student athletes through a separate marketing entity. Needless to say it’s a bit of a risk leaving a job with stable benefits. :)

We have had roughly 500 donations total since We Will originated and relative to a school like Texas Tech that announced it is giving $25,000 to each football player we are a couple million dollars behind them. Iowa State players apply to be paired with non-profits through the We Will website and that begins the process of who is eligible to receive compensation for their community efforts. We have participated in 6 community events so far with 8 athletes I believe. We’re not trying to hide anything I promise and we really do need everyone to buy in if we want Iowa State to be successful in this space. Thus why I’m involved and really want this to do well. Happy to answer any more questions if it can get people on board.

I think the community events and charity work while noble and I do hope it continues, it does seem like an round about way of justifying this to ourselves when most other schools aren't enforcing the same requirements on themselves. We all know what this is for, no point in sugar coating it and making things more difficult for ourselves when we're already at a disadvantage on on every other front.

Well for one because they don't need it. They have everything they NEED already taken care of.
I'm having trouble reconciling why I wouldn't just give 500 dollars to a food bank or something rather than 500 dollars to a student athlete so they can buy something and then go hang out for a few hours at a food bank. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the way these partnerships are in actuality.
