Stadium construction ...

Agree to disagree I guess. I've gone to Iowa, WVU, NC State games, and WVU and ISU stick out with how small the press boxes are. I just think it looks a little minor league, and out of place for a stadium so big. A full length press box really makes everything feel more "big time" if that makes any sense.
Who cares? There's clearly no current demand for suites. A new press tower would cost $75m, at minimum, and fundraising for and spending that kind of money for an aesthetic is not something we should be doing at the moment.

Note that WVU has the same stadium design as we do. They, like us, had room to add premium space between the decks.

Schools with full length 'press boxes' have often done so because they needed that premium space and couldnt add it in the middle (or they had enough big funders they needed even more space). We don't need it at this time. The cost:benefit just isn't there, it really isn't close. Especially when you really look at the underlying costs. Our concourse\concessions are all in the way of where any expanding supports for a new box would go.
That is what many said when we redid the South endzone, lets get the crowd size up before building. Jami didn't listen and bowled in the South endzone, and look what it has done for the stadium. The high dollar area is sold out, the people and business are there to spend money on ISU, we have to provide them the opportunity to do so, and private boxes and suites are the way to do that.

We were routinely selling out the old capacity before we built the SEZ. Demand was there for more mid-level premium space (which is what the SEZ is.. its not suite-level demand).

We currently don't even sell out our existing suite space. Much less an entire new box full of it farther away from the action.

Exactly. And we have that space in the middle.

If demand existed for premium space in the press box, it would already be built because it would pay for itself. That demand does not exist.

You want vanity things, the projects at hilton address basic functionality and revenue. When we are as limited budget as we are, we have to focus on the latter.
It's not vanity at all, it's called staying in the game of big-time football. No one is complaining about Hilton, it's like the Fog in Manhattan. Spend the money where we can get the best return, and that is on the football side of the equation.

We were not selling premium seating in the South endzone, and I have never heard about the boxes not selling out. Businesses will spend the money if we give them the opportunity and put a good product on the field.

Why did EIU rebuild their North endzone with more boxes and premium seating, because that is where the money is at to be made. We need to follow their example, and they are having no problem selling those seats.

A recruit isn't going to pick another school over Iowa State because of where we shove stupid journos during games, just like how they're not going to pick us over another school because we have a pedestrian bridge outside the stadium.

No kidding, it's called making more money for the university, and you have to spend money to make money. I could care less about the sports writers; I want those recruits to walk into the stadium and see we have first class facilities. I want recruits to go on the field and see that ISU is doing everything they can to ensure that they are playing at the highest level of college football, here in little ol Ames Iowa.,

How many times do we have to tell you this wouldnt make money.

There's no demand for additional suite space. JP has said this numerous times when asked about press box changes. Therefore, it would not make additional money. Certainly not enough to cover the cost.

The only people who care about press box size are weirdos on the internet.

I'll say that the immediate impression of Jack Trice compared to Kinnick or Carter-Finley is a less impressive one, due to the press box. It just lacks the grandeur and wow factor that other stadiums have.

Show me a feasibility analysis on the demand for more suites at Jack Trice. I will agree, I'd love to have a tower similar to the one at Kinnick, but that tower is also the only place in that stadium they have suites. We have 43 suites at Jack Trice and Iowa has 46, just for reference.

I mean, the bridge and RV lot they just built won't really pay for itself? Why should a better tower/press box. All the recent north end zone improvements as well. They won't make money back, they were done for the sake of improving the stadium, the gameday experience, and for just the impressiveness factor.

The bridge was paid for by one donor who wanted the bridge done, and the RV lots we’re paid for by another donor (or a few) for the specific project. Feel free to email Jamie in the morning regarding your lead gift of $50m if you want the new press tower so badly.

Also, those two things were both done to pave the way for a revenue-generating plan being developed for the space in between JTS and Hilton.
