GoT: House of the Dragon official trailer

It certainly looks the part. But you could tell pretty clearly when GOT ran out of book material. They don't take the chances like they did early on. I hope they don't do the same with this.

What made GOT great was the willingness to let characters die and create oh **** moments all the time. Once the books were done, we didn't see the same. It was rather predictable at times. So even as a prequel that the story is sorta known, you have to find ways to create those moments again. Otherwise, it's just another show with great visual effects.

I disagree with this in general. The books included Jon getting stabbed when everybody knew he was coming back. The books included Cat returning as Lady Stoneheart. The entire story stopped being as shocking after the red wedding.

PS The books aren't nearly as good after aSoS either. Plus they'll never get finished so I get a little irked when people start throwing that out there.

Are you listing Lady Stoneheart as a knock on the books? If so, I strenuously disagree. I find that storyline to be one of the more interesting ones in the books. You can lay so much of the bad things that happen to the Stark family at the feet of Catelyn and her action/inaction due to her love for her family. Her transformation from protagonist to antagonist is one of the better tales being told in the series, in my opinion. I think it was a mistake for the show to leave it out.

No, it's good.

My point is just that the whole knock on the show of "now that the books are done nobody stays dead" and "nothing shocking happens" I just disagree with. That was already happening before they ran out of book material. I think the book material is also getting worse as the show did for some people. Also, it's not the showrunner's fault that the book material ran out, it's Martin's for producing essentially one book (since Feast and Dance are really one story) in 22 years.

Edit to add; Benioff is a great writer. he wrote City of Thieves, 25th Hour, etc. I think the disappointing ending for a lot of fans is more about them having the show go on too long, in too remote of a location, and being handcuffed by the story rather than the writers just being too stupid to functionally finish the story. I just got really tired of that narrative about the show.
