MLB: Sox Sign Colon

Ugh... haven't we been down this road before??

I would guess KW is worried about getting another arm. Having Marquez and Poreda/Richard fill the back of the rotation is kind of scary at first blush.

Is this confirmed? If not hopefully we can get half a season out of the guy and hand the spot off to someone else. I just doubt the guy has the fitness to last a full season anymore.

It's on FoxSports.com.

Plenty of fat jokes to be had though.

Might still be both. We'll cobble a starter together out of their spare parts.

LOL! Why not? Lots of experience there...maybe they could alternate months in order to stay healthy?

With the legs of Bartolo Colon, the chest of Freddy Garcia, the arms of Aaron Poreda and the left hand of Clayton Richard, we have our fifth starter.

I don't follow the Sox too much due to my dislike for their squad (no offense)... Something that I think many teams learn the hard way is that it's a more cost effective option (and productive as well) to have a decent AAA guy be the 4th or 5th starter as opposed to over-paying for a washed up veteran...

Overpaying? Colon is guaranteed $1 million. The most he can get is $3 million. This is ultimate low risk, high reward.

And they're still going to have a young pitcher have the 5th spot.

Did anyone see him for Boston last year, good riddance I say!

Yes, he pitched pretty well for Boston. He got hurt batting in interleague, not pitching.

He has a ton of innings in him, though. If it doesn't work out, it's no big deal.

Yes, $1-$3 million to basically guarentee a loss one every 5 days...

Look at it, John Danks and Gavin Floyd gets paid about $400k or so each right?

I realize they are getting paid low due to being young, but it's just funny to me that they are paying $1 mil for an over-the-hill guy and a combined 800k or so for two of their best pitchers...

It just seems like if you want a guy who will have about a 5+ ERA, might as well pay some minor leaguer 300K to do it instead...
