New Strength Coach

I just hope he doesn't have them traveling TOO far around the world solving mysteries, as I think this would distract them from football.

Zalinski?

Are we any closer to getting a strength coach? Are the players working themselves out this week?

Alright so this took longer than I expected and there were two names that I was expecting it to be. One of them is correct in that it is Yancy Mcknight. Forget about him being from Rice, or having Iowa connections. This guy is good. Yancy held both s&C as well as assistant AD title at Rice.

Yancy brings the best of both worlds from what we have had in the past. Guys will test will at combines - which translates into power in the trenches and they will also be well developed all around. Yancy will bring a strong football mindset and will be very respected.

I will post more later, but one link by the way that you might find interesting is the following yoga link...

I really like what I am hearing about where Rhoads has gone on the new S&C. I won't rehash all the arguments about the two prior, but both had their (no pun intended) strengths and weaknesses. Getty was more of a fitness professional, but if you recall one of the complaints that always came out on this board and those that preceded it on NFL combine day....our guys didn't test well in strength. Shep had built the strength of the team and yet he too wasn't a complete "modern" fitness guy and also as has been reported widely was not as universally loved by players as Getty was.

What I am hearing about the new guy is that he is more balance across these two, but importantly has more of a football specific focus. Understanding not just the strength/muscle development for football, but also the has great perspective on developing guys to not just test well (which if it wasn't important it wouldn't be in the combine) but making them better able to use that strength in football situations.

More to follow, but if what I am hearing is correct I will be very pleased. And no like everyone else I have no idea when anything will be announced

I haven't heard anything on Clayton, however, I tend to think it would be much cleaner for Rice to promote him when replacing a well loved coach. If that happens he won't be coming to Ames. Net I would be surprised, but pleasantly if he has an Ames address.
